The Sex Files #13: You’re Not Alone: Sexual Health Resources in the Boston Area

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

We’ve all noticed it before:  the absence of the expected free condoms at University Health Services, the word “denied” on the register when you try to buy condoms with Eagle Bucks at Campus Convenience, and the general uncertainty around sexual health at Health Services.  Although sex and sexual health resources appear to be glaringly absent on the Boston College campus, we here at BCSSH never want you to feel out of options when it comes to protecting your health.  So we, in our infinite sex wisdom, have compiled a list of everything we could think of and where to get it.

Boston College Health Services
BC University Health Services (UHS) offers STI testing in addition to annual gynecological check-ups, pregnancy testing and counseling, HPV vaccination, and sexual assault services and counseling.  Visit the UHS website for more information, or call 617-552-3225 to ask questions or make an appointment.

Planned Parenthood
Planned Parenthood provides a wide variety of accessible and affordable sexual and reproductive health resources and services, and they’re right down the road!  One of our personal favorites, Planned Parenthood is the hub of sexual health resources, counseling, and education.  In addition to medical visits, Planned Parenthood offers different birth control options, including, but not limited to the pill, condoms, and emergency contraception (the morning-after pill).  Not sure which option is right for you? Try out their My Method tool, or go to their website for more information.

Fenway Health
Fenway Health promotes health, education, and advocacy for Boston’s GLBTQ population.  In addition to general health care, Fenway Health offers STI prevention, testing, and education.  They also offer support groups for aid in dealing with issues such as coming out, self-esteem, and trauma.  For more details, visit their website.

For those of you looking for a shorthand version, here’s where you can find:

What we’re trying to convey here is that attending a Jesuit institution doesn’t mean you’re exiled to a sexual health desert.  With a little bit of information and a Charlie Card, what you’re looking for could only be a T-ride away.  Play safe!

Peace, love, and lube,
BC Students for Sexual Health
