Running Playlist to Beat the Winter Blues

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

If you haven’t noticed, it’s been pretty chilly on the Heights lately.  With the snow flying around, it can sometimes be hard to find the motivation to go to the gym.  In order to beat the winter blues, make a killer playlist that’ll keep you pumped throughout your workout.  Make sure you include some of these tracks:

“Life In Technicolor ii” by Coldplay

This four-minute track is a great way to start off a run.  It has a positive melody, and let’s be honest, Coldplay songs just make you feel happy.  Happy song equals happy run, happy run equals happy day!

“Donald Trump” by Mac Miller

Okay, I know this one is kind of old and a bit overplayed, but its beat is perfect for keeping a steady pace.  Dust this one off and add it to your playlist.

Song of your choice from one of your favorite soundtracks

One of my favorite songs to work out to is “The Legend Spreads” off of the Braveheart soundtrack.  If bagpipes aren’t your instrument of choice, check out tracks like “Aggressive Expansion” (from The Dark Knight), “Fireworks” (from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), or, one of the best, “Lose Yourself” by Eminem (from the 8 Mile soundtrack).

“Scream & Shout” by will.i.am featuring Britney Spears

I admit that Britney’s fake British accent in this new chart-topper is a little odd but you can’t deny you sing along with the chorus every time you hear it.

Florence + The Machine song of your choice

Flo has some great tracks to pull you through the end of your workout so this one is really up to you.  Personally, I am torn between “Shake It Out”, “Spectrum (Say My Name) [Calvin Harris Remix]”, or Calvin Harris’s “Sweet Nothing” featuring Florence.

“If Only” by Dave Matthews Band

A BC playlist wouldn’t be complete without at least one song from one of the most popular bands on campus. This track, off of DMB’s new album, is a mellow song to begin winding down a run around the Res.

“Your Hand In Mine” by Explosions in the Sky

Easily the best song on the planet for a cool down. Starting off slow, this instrumental track slowly builds for eight minutes of perfection. You may have heard this song and others from this group featured in Friday Night Lights.
