Fall is fast approaching, and girls everywhere know what that means; leggings are back. Personally, I think leggings are one of the greatest things to grace the earth.  They’re comfortable, casual, yet still cute and stylish.  However, they can be abused, and that can get awkward.  I think every girl should remember these tips about the right and wrong way to wear leggings.
The Right Way:
- Wear leggings with a long shirt or a short dress. This way you leave something to the imagination.
- Layers! Add a scarf or a denim jacket to dress up your outfit.Â
- Solid colored leggings are more flattering. Whether you’re into simple black or maybe something a little more wild, stick to one color. It’s easier to match a top and you won’t look like a walking Jackson Pollock painting.
- Choose the right shoes. Flats, tall boots, and low heels look great with leggings.
- Some brands can be worn as athletic clothing. If you have a pair of thicker leggings like Nike or Lululemon it’s okay to wear them to your yoga or spin classes. Watch out for the cheap cotton pairs though; they can get very uncomfortable when you start to break a sweat.Â
- Sweaters, sweaters, sweaters! This is my favorite fall trend. Long sweaters and leggings are a cozy and fashionable look to remember.

The Wrong Way
- Make sure your leggings aren’t see-through. No one wants to see you bare it all when you bend over to pick up that dropped pencil.
- If you wear boots with your leggings, make sure they’re long enough, or that your boots are tall enough. Avoid the awkward gap of skin between the top of your boots and the bottom of your leggings.
- Avoid striped and strange patterns. It’s hard on the eyes and I promise it’s not flattering on your body.
- Remember that leggings are not pants. They’re not a substitute for jeans, and they don’t look good with crop tops and tight shirts.
- Don’t wear leggings that are too tight. A smaller size won’t make you look smaller. Make sure they’re comfortable and form fitting, but don’t let them squeeze you and show every bump and curve.
- Skin colored leggings. I think that one explains itself.
