Guys seem to never understand me.  They say I watch too many chick-flicks, I snap my gum too loud, I criticize other girls’ outfits a little too much, and I crave drama but act like I hate it.  But there is one critique from boys that really baffles me about them: complaining about how long it takes girls to get ready.  They constantly roll their eyes and comment about how long we take, how often we change our outfits, why we do “that” to our hair, and the amount of money we spend on our makeup and hair products.  Guess what?  We’re girls.  It’s what we do.

Planning an outfit:

Boys constantly complain that girls take too long planning an outfit, whether we are going to class or out on the weekends.  Has it ever occurred to the male population that we simply don’t know what to wear!  Yes, I know, we have closets filled to the brim with clothes, but we are looking for “the one”; that one outfit that will make us feel confident for the entire time we are wearing it.  If I’m feeling kind of down, I’m not going to want to wear my tightest pencil skirt or if it’s hot, I can’t wear that chunky sweater.  This can take plenty of attempts, and we don’t always get it right on the first time!  Wouldn’t you rather be with a girl who feels confident in her own skin?  You can spare the extra 10 minutes, boys, for a date that looks like a perfect 10.

Showering:

The main complaint here is simply the length of time girls take in the shower.  Some of us have hair almost eighteen inches long that needs to be shampooed and conditioned, not to mention brushed thoroughly!  Our hair is longer; it therefore takes longer to wash than boys.  Amazing, right?  Additionally, the super, smooth legs that we all love?  They don’t shave themselves.  Shaving legs takes up the majority of the time in the shower and rightfully so, boys know first-hand, razor cuts hurt!

Putting on Makeup:

Guys, just consider this: we are brushing and prodding our skin with products that could literally “poke our eyes out.”  Mascara, eyeliner, blush, powder, bronzer, the list goes on and on.  Have you ever seen an eyelash curler or an eyeliner pencil before?  Those things are a possible injury waiting to happen!  So before you criticize us for taking that extra ten or fifteen minutes to do our makeup, consider how great we look after all that prodding and poking!

So boys, next time you want to complain about how long you were waiting for us to finish out makeup routine, stop for a second.  Remember how great girls look when they have sufficient time to get ready and then consider that boys and girls are simply different.  We take longer to look good, but we always look fabulous. xoxo
