Pinterest Tour: Dorm Sweet Dorm

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

If you are anything like me, you may or may not have spent a good few hours browsing Pinterest this summer for dorm decorations. And if you are also anything like me, you probably inner-sighed upon the realization that in no-way-shape-or-form would your room EVER look like one of those HGTV masterpieces. Sigh.

But with a college student’s budget and a bohemian theme in mind, I tried my best to “Flip” not “Flop” my BC bedroom.

I channeled my inner boho-babe with a tapestry from Amazon and a plethora of mix-matched pillows. (Personal Motto: The More Pillows The Merrier.) My elephant bed skirt is actually a child’s shower curtain but it nicely hides my dresser and an ungodly amount of shoes. And yes. That is a footstool. I am 5’0 tall. After last year, I was tired of pole vaulting onto my bed like an Olympic athlete.

Also courtesy of Amazon, I found this unique Frida Kahlo self-portrait. It’s more sophisticated than your average boy band or run-of-the-mill ocean scene. It’s bright and colorful: perfect for our often gray weather.

For a personal touch, I gathered some photos of my family and friends and created a collage to adorn one of my walls. When decorating your room, you have to remember that your dorm is your home for the majority of the school year. It’s essential to make it feel warm, comfortable, and personalized. Lastly, I found a funky tribal rug at TJ Max and some trendy pillows at Target to accessorize my couch (oh, the perks of a single).

But the pièce de résistance in my sitting area is obviously my furry white footstool. Très chic, don’t you think?

All with a little effort and some penny pinching, I created my own version of a Pinterest bedroom.  Whether you would pin it or leave it…welcome to my crib.
