New Year’s Resolutions You Know You Won’t Accomplish

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

We all attempt to make New Year’s resolutions, or at least attempt to change some of our ways in the new year. And, although we intend to uphold these promises to ourselves, many of us inevitably do not fulfill them. Whether it is through lack of resolve, personal circumstances, or pure ambivalence, 92% of people fail at keeping their New Year’s Resolutions. Are you one of them?

Going to the Gym

We all say we’re going to work out more, but after awhile, when the time comes to head out into the cold and take that long walk to the Plex, the motivation just isn’t there.

Eat Healthier

Yes, salads can be good on occasion. But not every day, and not when there’s a steak and cheese calling my name. Also, dessert should be classified as a food group.

Get Organized

They say that organization is key, but so is ordered chaos. If I know that my philosophy folder is under the pile of shirts on my bed, why mess with the system?

Go on Your Phone Less

This is actually a good resolution to make, and I’ve tried to keep it on several occasions. But it is just so darn hard not to check your phone when in an awkward situation. I’d rather break my resolution than have to make eye contact with the stranger walking my way.

Get More Sleep

Sleep is very important. Science says so. Yet, for some unexplained reason, college students are always sleep deprived. It’s a hard habit to break, staying up late. So if you can accomplish it, good for you. Otherwise, make coffee or tea your new best friend.

Regardless of why you didn’t accomplish your New Year’s resolution, don’t worry. Only 8% of people actually succeed. So, if you’re in the 8%, congratulations! If you’re not, remember that you are not the only one. New Year’s resolutions are a way for you to recognize how you want to be a better version of yourself, and you can change over the course of a year. That means your goals can change too. Just because you stopped doing your New Year’s resolution, that doesn’t mean you failed; it means you found something else to make yourself the best you that you can be!
