Netflix’s Best Hits

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Okay, summer is over, but some of us are just not willing to give up on endless hours of watching TV shows on Netflix.  Here are a few great ones to get you started:

  1. Arrested Development: I’m ranking this first because 1. It’s a hilarious show and 2. Netflix exclusively has the new season five.  Go watch this show right NOW.
  1. Orange is the New Black: This is the new one everyone’s talking about.  It is not for the faint of heart, as it is set in a women’s correctional facility and some pretty crazy/graphic stuff happens in every episode.  But if you can handle it, it’s superbly entertaining.

  1. Scandal: Kerry Washington stars as a White House Communications Director who dedicates her life to keeping high profile secrets kept as…. well, secrets.  This is definitely a show that is easy to get sucked into.

  1. The Walking Dead: If you love scary, then watch this show.  Zombie apocalypse!  The apocalyptic story line is well done with a great cast of characters.
  1. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: My personal favorite in which a hilarious group of dysfunctional adults tries to run a bar in Philly.  If you haven’t given this show a try, you NEED to.  There’s just no way you’ll regret that decision.

  1. Skins: Skins, a British TV show following a group of teenagers who are seriously too cool for their own good, deserves a chance.  The characters are extremely well developed and the plot is always exciting.  It’ll probably put your high school experience to shame, but still, the acting is so good you’ll feel like you lived through it all anyway.

  1. House of Cards: This is a political drama; obviously full of twists and turns, and of course plenty of corruption and a wealth of affairs.

  1. Breaking Bad: Everyone seems to love this show right now (probably because it’s very good).  A high school chemistry teacher turned meth lab master stars in this popular drama.

  1. Friday Night Lights: This is one of those shows that leave you hanging on a cliffhanger after each episode.  Only start if you have an endless amount of time to devote to the completion of all the seasons (yes, it’s really that addictive).
  1. American Horror Story: Probably more creepy than scary, this show never ceases to surprise with the most twisted of scenarios.  You may want to watch this one with more than one tab open for a quick escape.

  1. (Bonus) Law and Order SVU and (various types of ) CSI: If you don’t want the commitment of getting sucked into a whole season of a TV show, these are a good solution.  They are easy to watch in one episode increments: this may be important to remember one day when you really cant afford to lose an entire day to your computer screen.
