With the 89th Academy awards airing Sunday, February 26th, let’s take a moment to recap some of the most memorable Oscar moments thus far. 

 

2016 Leo finally wins

Leonardo DiCaprio finally one an Oscar after years of nominations. Winning Best Actor for his performance in The Revenant, Leo finally earned his own little gold statue.

 

 

2014 Ellen DeGeneres takes a star-studded selfie

When Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto and Angelina Jolie all pose for the same picture, it’s bound to make an impact. 

 

 

2013 Jennifer Lawrence takes a tumble

Walking up the steps to receive her award for Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook, Jennifer tripped on her Dior gown earning her some prime real estate on my list of favorite celebs.

 

 

2010 Kathryn Bigelow gets the best revenge

Bigelow was the first female to win the Oscar for Best Director for Hurt Locker, beating out her ex-husband, James Cameron.

 

 

2009 Heath Ledger wins a posthumous Oscar

Ledger won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Dark Knight following his overdose in 2008. His family accepted the award on his behalf.

 

 

2002 Halle Berry makes history

Winning for her role in Monster’s Ball Halle Berry became, and remains, the first and only black woman to win an Oscar for Best Actress.

 

 

2001 Julia Roberts takes initiative

Upon taking the stage for her Best Actress win for Erin Brockovich, Roberts warned the conductor to let her speak and not ruin her moment. She said, “Sir, you’re doing a great job, but you’re so quick with that stick. So why don’t you sit, because I may never be here again.”

 

 

1999 Roberto Benigni is cool as a cucumber

Upon winning the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film for Life is Beautiful, Italian actor/director, Roberto Benigni jumped up on the back of his chair and excitedly hopped down to the stage.

 

 

We are looking forward to seeing what memorable moments this year’s ceremony will feature.
