More Celebrity or More Designer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Celebrities have invaded the Big Apple for New York Fashion Week. With incredible brands such as Badgley Mischka, Jenny Packham, Jason Wu, and Marchesa, this year’s Fashion Week has been extremely popular with celebrities from around the world. Some have been spectators, such as Michelle Rodriguez at Gabriela Cadena, Penelope Cruz at Carolina Herrera, and Christina Hendricks, Amy Schumer, Jennifer Hudson, and Bella Thorne at Zac Posen’s show. Celebrities such as Kendall Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid, and Karli Kloss have been strutting down the runway in shows from Tommy Hilfiger and Diane von Furstenberg. However, there are also celebrities that are behind the scenes at New York Fashion Week, celebrities that are designing the clothes that famous people have been watching and wearing.

Lauren Conrad and Victoria Beckham both had fantastic runway shows this past week. For Lauren, it was her first show and she was pairing with Kohls for her LC Lauren Conrad brand. Her collection was affordable, yet, super chic, inspired by the mysteries of the forest and filled with lace, velvet shorts, and formal dresses. For pro Victoria Beckham, her collection consisted of clashing prints, neutral colors, and straight lines, perfect for a high fashion runway show.

Interestingly, both Lauren Conrad and Victoria Beckham didn’t start out as designers. Lauren’s fame came from Laguna Beach and The Hills. For Victoria Beckham, her popularity started when she was Posh Spice in Spice Girls and grew after she married David Beckham. These two celebrities didn’t start in fashion, but they quickly made their marks in fashion. Throughout The Hills, Lauren was either studying at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising or interning at Teen Vogue. Victoria became a fashion ambassador for Dolce and Gabbana and walked for Roberto Cavalli.

Though these two designers didn’t gain their fame through designing, more and more people are forgetting Lauren as the girl from The Hills and Victoria as Posh Spice. Both are amazingly talented and have worked extremely hard to get where they are. Their clothes are super fashionable, and there is no doubt that they will be here for years to come. Congratulations Lauren and Victoria on your amazing success and we can’t wait to see the amazing designs you both create in the future!
