Meet Molly & Ricky!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

The voting process has begun and now it’s time to make a tough choice.  We wanted to make sure that our favorite collegiettes have all the election information before logging in sometime today to vote for your favorite candidate!

Introducing Molly and Ricky – both current members of the UGBC Senate, as well as many other organizations on campus dedicated to helping both current and prospective students find what they love most about BC.  We asked them some questions to learn what the heart of their campaign is, and to find out what we should expect from them!  And if you want some more information, check out their campaign website – www.believeinbc.com

5. What do you think sets you apart from the other candidates in this election?

We are unique because as Senate VP, I am the only candidate who was directly involved in the 6 months of conversations and development of the new UGBC structure.  I have a thorough understanding of all the ins and outs, but Ricky also brings a fresh perspective.  As important as my experience is, I am naturally very close to the new structure.  Ricky balances that out, and has ideas on how to work within the new structure in order to improve it.  Additionally, we stand apart from the rest because we have considered not only short-term initiatives to improve daily student life, but also crafted a long term vision to shift campus culture toward a more inclusive and self-affirming environment.

6. What is one thing you really want to make happen on campus?

One thing that we are really passionate about is a culture change on campus.  We recognize that this can’t happen overnight, but it is something we feel very strongly about.  We would want our administration to be a catalyst for this change, by providing ways to inspire and facilitate discussion.  This is present in many areas of our platform and long-term vision, including our hope to address real cultural diversity issues in the core by expanding the Backgrounds program.

7. What is the thing you’re most excited for during this election process?

The greatest part of the election process is the opportunity to meet so many wonderful and supportive students who take time out of their lives to help with the campaign.  The creativity and determination that we see from every person involved in this campaign inspires us and affirms what we’re doing here.

8. Should we expect any surprises from your campaign?

We’ll see!!

Kelsey Damassa is in her senior year at Boston College, majoring in Communications and English. She is a native of Connecticut and frequents New York City like it is her job. On campus, she is the Campus Correspondent for the Boston College branch of Her Campus. She also teaches group fitness classes at the campus gym (both Spinning and Pump It Up!) and is an avid runner. She has run five half-marathons as well as the Boston Marathon. In her free time, Kelsey loves to bake (cupcakes anyone?), watch Disney movies, exercise, read any kind of novel with a Starbucks latte in hand, and watch endless episodes of "Friends" or "30 Rock."
