The Basics
Name: Don Orr
Hometown: Oceanside, California.
School/Year: A&S 2014
Major: History and Philosophy
BC Life
Activities/Clubs: I’m co-director of My Mother’s Fleabag, vice-chair of Students for Sexual Health (formerly Boston College Students for Sexual Health), and I’m a DJ at WZBC. Put simply: jokes, sexual health, and music.
Best class: I’d have to say either U.S. History 1877-1922 or this writing workshop on creative non-fiction I took my freshmen year. They were both fun.
Worst class: Introduction to Theatre
Bapst or O’Neill: O’Neill during the day and Bapst at night.
Favorite place to eat: Hillside. I know a lot of the employees there and the Panini’s are great, except for the one with fig.
Fun Facts
Biggest pet peeve: Fire drills.
Most embarrassing moment: I’ve worn some stupid hats.
Fun fact: You’ve technically never had a real banana. Before the 1950s, the Gros Michel banana was the most common variety of the fruit and the one that originally became popular in the United States. Today we use the Cavendish variety because in the 1950s Panama Disease wiped out all the Gros Michel plantations in South America and Africa. As a result, we had to switch to the more resistant, but less tasty Cavendish strain.
Favorite movie: The Darjeeling Limited or National Treasure
Favorite TV show: The Venture Brothers or House of Cards
Favorite band: Fleetwood Mac
Favorite Stevie: Nicks
Favorite Werner Herzog film: Cave of Forgotten Dreams
Celeb crush: Ellen (Page or DeGeneres) and Emilia Clark.
Dream job: Professor or comedian. I could also see myself being the cool high school teacher or 007.
Favorite BC sport: Football.
Favorite hangout spot on campus: WZBC
Gossip on Girls
Ideal girl: This is hard; I don’t think I have a physical type so to speak. I just like pretty girls. She’d have to be smart, like to talk and love movies.
Funny date stories: I went on a date with a girl who I thought was the coolest at the time. We went to see a movie and have coffee after. We saw a movie she really wanted to see, but one I thought would be awful. I ended up loving the movie and deciding the girl might be a terrible person. We never went on another date, but I went and saw the movie again.
Deal breakers: I think if we couldn’t make each other laugh or have long conversations that’d be rough.
And last, but not least… Advice to freshmen: Try not to think of yourself as freshmen. The less that label means to you, the less it means to others. We’re not in high school anymore. Also, don’t go out in huge groups. No one is going to let eight random people into their party.
