“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.” – Robert Brault
We’ve all heard this quote, but in the fast-paced lifestyle of a BC student, packed with internship searching, interviews, and some small semblance of a social life in between, we have forgotten to really appreciate The Little Things. Blogs like Just Little Things are dedicated to appreciating the simpler things in life, and we are following suit! Her Campus BC Presents: The Little Things: BC, a project whose sole purpose is to call attention to how great life here at BC is!
Having the room to yourself.
It’s been a long day of classes, meetings, and lunch dates. You are completely spent and have little energy to throw your hair up into a ponytail, let alone do anything else. You walk into your room, and find it completely silent! You are the only one home. It feels so great to not have to worry about anyone else, not that you don’t enjoy your roommates, but having some privacy, some alone time, is just what you needed! You throw on sweatpants, break out the Ben and Jerry’s, and just marvel at the much-needed “ME” time!
Your favorite soup is at the Rat.
You’ve been up and at ‘em since your 9 am and that Odwalla bar you grabbed at Hillside just didn’t fill you up! Your stomach has been growling as loudly as the winter wind pounding against the windows of Lyons. Finally, you descend the stairs to the Rat, and are excited to find none other than your favorite beef and barley soup waiting for you, as warm and inviting as the staff that works there. You ladle yourself a bountiful bowl of broth. What a beautiful day!
First day of class, and your professor brings her dog!
It’s the first day of class, and ambiguity lays thick in the air like a dense fog. Am I going to like this class? Will I
be able to get a good grade? Will it be a waste of my time? Questions. Questions. Just as anxiety mounts, Maggie the hypo-allergenic West Highland White Terrier bounds into McGuinn 303! Nothing makes you appreciate the simple happiness like a precious puppy in your new psych class.
Running late, but magically arriving on time!
Whether you hit the snooze button one too many times, or got caught up in admiring your appearance in the always seductive glass of Robsham, you look at your new iPhone 4 and realize you have 5 minutes to get from your current location to Higgins. Hillside elevator? Nope, that will take too long. Million Dollar Stairs? Your legs are way too sore from Crossfit! You are stumped, and even Siri can’t solve this dilemma. So you bound up the stairs, panting and praying to get to class on time! You can’t be late for your chem quiz! Sweat dripping and palms sweating, you open the door to Higgins 300 and discover you’ve somehow made it on time!
Going into a class and realizing your friend is also there (you somehow passed over her when roster stalking on portal).
New classes, new semester, new people to sit with… Oh the possibilities! You want to make a prime choice among your new classmates. You avoid the student already sleeping, the person prone to super loud typing, and you scan looking for a familiar face. After an awkwardly long amount of time, you see your friend waving excitedly, as she moves her North Face over for you to join her!
