How to Detox After Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

After eating sweets on Valentine’s Day and in the days following it, you can start to feel sluggish and notice a change in your complexion. Here are a few ways to help keep you energized and healthy!

Drinks Lots of Water

You’ll hear this from every beauty magazine and blogger out there, but water is the key to both looking and feeling great. It flushes out toxins and gives your skin a dewy glow, even in the driest of winters. By drinking water throughout the day, you’ll be more awake and productive, which will also help you feel good. If you’re not a huge fan of water, try adding some fruit to it. Lemon water is especially good for you, but any type of fruit will be beneficial.

Exercise

Obviously exercise is one of the best things for you. It allows you to get in shape, to sleep better, and to feel happier. By exercising, you’ll regain the energy that all of the sugar most likely took away. While the elliptical and running are always good options, try switching it up with something like a Zumba or Spin class.

Swap Out Artificial Sugar for Natural Sugar

As hard as it is to give up chocolate and other sweets, you don’t have to sacrifice them completely. Peanut butter and chocolate hazelnut butter are two alternatives to artificial sweets, and are just as good. Get a banana, an apple, or almonds and pair them with one of these for a quick but filling snack. Not only will your skin clear up, but you’ll also feel more energized. This snack is perfect to have in between classes when you don’t have time for lunch or before the gym!

Exfoliate

Exfoliation can be a major game-changer in your skin’s health. Especially in the winter, exfoliation can remove any dry patches and allow for your moisturizer to work better. In order to really cleanse your skin, choose a natural exfoliator, like one with honeycombs, and then follow up with a nourishing facial wash. This will help battle any sugar-induced breakouts you may have gotten, and prevent them from happening in the future.

Follow these easy ways to get yourself out of the post-Valentine’s Day slump!
