Her Campus BC Does The Paint Bar

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Last week, a group of HC BC ladies hit The Paint Bar on Newbury Street for a night of creativity and cocktails! We found that it really was “no experience necessary” and a perfect relaxing release after a long week of classes.

Alana, Nina, and Katherine get ready to paint.

We started by putting on smocks to protect our outfits and pumping the paint colors we would need for a “Starry Night In Boston.” Next, we got our painting station fully ready by grabbing a drink from the bar: beer, wine, prosecco, mimosas!

The set up as everyone got ready.

Jackie, one of the owners of The Paint Bar, led us through the entire painting step by step. She stood on a small stage where we could all see, and she used a microphone so we could all hear her instructions. She made her own painting on a canvas like ours as well as painting some of the aspects on a large paper so we could all see better. At first I was worried about the directions being too complicated for someone with zero art skills, but each step was simple and clear. Thanks Jackie!

Morgan makes sure to get the sides.

The Paint Bar established two important rules for the painting sessions: No Type-A’s and No Complaining/Comparing. Type-A personalities, those that like everything to be perfectly in its spot, will not work well doing a creative painting, so we had to leave our quest for perfection at the door. They also do not allow statements like, “Ugh yours is so much better than mine” and “Mine is the worst painting in the whole class!” Embrace the imperfection, uniqueness, and creativity of it all!

One of my favorite parts of the experience was singing along to the awesome playlist Jackie had going. Nothing like belting it out to a little Whitney Houston and Justin Bieber to get the creative juices flowing.

Morgan and Meghan’s beautiful paintings!

Two and a half hours later, we had all created amazing masterpieces! The Paint Bar is the perfect place to take a date or go for a girls’ night. The HC BC girls had a great time bonding. The price ($35) is reasonable for a night of fun and a great painting! Look on their website for the painting calendar and check out their Facebook page!

Thanks The Paint Bar! Love, Her Campus BC
