“Wow, Kate! You got just what you wanted!” I squealed to my older sister one Christmas morning. Sporting my Belle ball-gown, I admired my sister sitting amongst her new toys. “Wow, Dan! You got just what you wanted TOO!” my 3-year-old-self marveled to my older brother.
“Jules, didn’t you get all that you wanted?” asked my poor mother.
“No,” I sighed. The video camera caught the distressed look on my face as I gazed sadly at my mom. “I didn’t get my bah-bie house…” (No, I didn’t have a Boston accent, I just couldn’t pronounce my r’s).
Needless to say, I broke my mother’s heart that Christmas morning.
This Christmas, let’s not break any hearts, eh? Be sure to not overlook the Barbie house… or whatever that perfect gift might be. God forbid you leave some 3-year-old (or 20-year-old, for that matter) in utter distress on Christmas morning.
Finding the perfect gift isn’t an easy task, so HC BC is here to help with some creative ideas. Today is Day One of the HC BC Gift Guide, and we’re tackling what to get the boyfriend.
The Athletic BF:
1. ESPN’s 30-for-30 Limited Edition Gift Set
Repeat after me: 30-for-30 and you CAN’T go wrong. Any sports fan is going to love this DVD set. But what is it? It’s 30 fantastic documentaries of their favorite athletes. You’ll totally score with this one. Though the 2 volume set is a tad pricey at $119.99, you could make it more affordable by only buying one volume for $49.99. Buy at www.amazon.com or www.ESPNshop.com.
2. Basketball tickets. Oh wait.
(Sorry, NBA fans. That was just mean.) I wrote that last week, before the lockout ended, but luckily, it’s not an ugly joke anymore, run, bball fans, run! Go get your tickets! Season starts Christmas day! (Go CAVS!)
3. Hockey tickets.
Um hi, what sports fan doesn’t want to go to a Bruins game with you? Log onto www.nhlbruins.com to buy some tickets! I’ve always been a fan of buying an “experience,” rather than material goods, so this is perfect! Plus, if you like hockey yourself, it’s a win-win.
4. A throw-back jersey
What’s his favorite team? Who’s his favorite player? Search it/him online and try to find a vintage jersey. Although a little steep, this gift is sure to be a pleaser.
The Hipster BF:
1. Concert tickets, duh.
The concert: hipster mecca. Search his favorite, most obscure band that NEVER tours, and snag those tickets. Then start listening to their music so you two can intimately sing and dance together in the small venue.
2. A record player and old vinyls
Hey, hey, it’s not so hard to find, ok? Target actually has record players and they’re pretty awesome. Then head over to your favorite music store (wait… you say you’re dating a hipster… but you’re not a hipster!? HAH.) and flip through their record collection and snag a few classics. Or stop by Newbury Comics- they have a spectacular record collection. You can find just about anything you want!
3. DIY Photography, just hear me out.
Try out your photography skills. Borrow a camera from a friend and go out and take some black-and-whites of his favorite places, bands, people, family, whatever! Develop them as 8 x 10’s and put them in frames. Boom: homemade art for the walls of his trendy apartment/dorm.
The “Gamer” BF:
1. The new COD is out. (Call of Duty)
Simple enough: find it at your local Best Buy.
2. Settlers of Catan
Ok, so this game is actually awesome. It’s a board game, that some would classify as nerdy, but it’s so much fun. Though probably not available at any toy store, you can find it at Eureka Puzzles in Coolidge Corner, along with other great games.
3. B.C.Opoly
Who doesn’t love board games? Especially when it’s a classic like Monopoly re-made BC-style. This game is perfect for your BC boyfriend who can’t get enough games. Rather than buying Park Place or Madison Avenue, with this one-of-a kind version you can buy the Mods, Gasson Hall, and Conte Forum. The best part? You and your BC beau can snuggle up by the fire and play together during the holiday break. Available at the BC Bookstore.
So there you have it, collegiettes™, the first installment of the Her Campus Gift Guide: Boyfriend Edition. Hopefully you found it helpful! Remember, the best gifts are the ones from the heart. You know your guy the best, so think about what he loves to do and go from there! If all else fails, snoop around and ask his friends or family, they will have some good advice.
