HC BC and BC Women in Business Present: Girl Rising and Half the Sky

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

On April 30, HC BC is partnering with BC Women in Business to screen two powerful movies about girls’ education around the world. The first film will be Half the Sky, based on the book by Nicholas D. Kristoff and Sheryl WuDunn about the importance of turning oppression into opportunities for women around the world.

The second film, Girl Rising, was recently released by 10 X 10, and is being sponsored by Intel. Girl Rising is directed by Academy Award nominee Richard Robbins and “tells the stories of 9 extraordinary girls from 9 countries, written by 9 celebrated writers and narrated by 9 renowned actresses.”

You can read more about the 9 girls and their stories here. The trailer for the film is below and trust us, you’ll want to see the full-length film 9 seconds in! Join us on April 30 at 7:30pm in Merkert 127 – we promise you won’t regret it!
