Had a rough day? Living off-campus and don’t know how to cook? Sick of eating at Mac every day because the Eagle’s Nest line is too long? Looking to try something off campus but you’re too lazy to actually walk anywhere? Keep seeing photos of those smoothie bowls and have no clue where they came from? Have no fear—Playa Bowls is here! As New Jersey natives, we grew up going to Playa literally every week. And clearly, you can take the girl out of Jersey but you can’t take the Jersey out of the girl since we KEEP coming here.

Hi, Amanda here! Personally, at Playa, I always go for the Lola. The Lola has a green base (Kale, Banana, Pineapple and Coconut Milk) with granola, pineapple, mango, coconut flakes and honey on top. Don’t be afraid of the green base, it tastes nothing like kale! The Lola is actually relatively sweet making it a healthy alternative to White Mountain, though White Mountain still has my heart. (Side note, try Jamaican Rum ice cream! It’s a special that comes once in a while.) When you order, do not forget to get the free stickers at the front to decorate your laptop!

And I (hi it’s Jess) always go for the Nutella bowl but swap out the base for a green base. Don’t get me wrong, I love acai, but the green isn’t as sweet so I opt for it instead. This bowl is topped with granola, banana, strawberry, coconut, and Nutella. If there’s anything on a bowl you don’t like and want to swap out, there’s a ton of other options for toppings. And if you’re feeling frisky, you can even mix two different bases. If the food isn’t enough, the ambiance and energy are even more of a reason to come here. They constantly play bops on bops and they have great lighting for those smoothie selfies.

If you’re a Jersey girl (or boy, we don’t judge) and you’re feeling a little homesick, take a trip across Comm Ave and get yourself a Playa bowl.
