Fall Celeb Sightings at BC

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

We’re all familiar with the frenzy created by Liam Neeson’s surprise visit to BC’s campus with his son last semester. After swarms of students rushed to find Neeson and take photos with him, it became clear that the BC community loves their celeb appearances! So, what other famous faces have been on campus as of late? In case you missed the Instas, Tweets and FB posts by BC friends, here are a few celebs spotted on The Heights so far this semester!

Jermaine Jones posing with fans at the BC men’s soccer game!

After the hype of this summer’s World Cup, professional soccer players have been spending a significant amount of time in the spotlight of the celebrity scene. This being true, it’s no surprise that fans at the BC men’s soccer game against Clemson last Friday were able to pick out US Men’s National Teamer Jermaine Jones in the crowd! Jones, who made his name with an incredible goal for the United States against Portugal during the World Cup tournament, has recently taken his talents to the New England Revolution. Jones attended the Friday night game alongside his new Revolution teammate Charlie Davies, a former BC soccer player. During the game, Jones signed autographs and took pictures with fans of all ages. Jones then returned to campus Saturday night for the incredible BC football win against USC, tweeting a photo of Alumni Stadium with the caption “At my first College Football Game… #WeAreBC” and tagging Davies, whom he once again spent his time with.

Will Ferrell making an appearance on Alumni Saturday night

Long-time comedy man Will Ferrell was also in attendance during Saturday night’s game. Ferrell, a USC alum famed for numerous roles including those in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and Step Brothers as well as a seven year tenure on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, came to support the Trojans in their third season game against the Eagles. Despite the rain, Ferrell stood on the USC sideline to cheer on his former school. Unfortunately for Ferrell, his presence was not enough to inspire the Trojans, and they fell to the Eagles 31-37. Nonetheless, Ferrell was a great sport – he even posed for a selfie with a representative from the BC alumni association, shared on their twitter account that night!

BC alum Pete Frates’ tweet after meeting the Crowther family Saturday night

In addition to Jones and Ferrell, BC hero Pete Frates also attended the weekend’s football game. Frates, a former BC baseball player recently diagnosed with ALS, made headlines this summer when his “Ice Bucket Challenge” went absolutely viral in the BC community and beyond. Frates’s video inspired millions of participants to make their own videos, including celebs such as Ellen Degeneres, Oprah, and Bill Gates. More importantly, the most recent report from the ALS Foundation accounts over $100 million in donations as a result of the challenge started by Frates! This being true, Frates took an emotional moment at halftime to thank those who participated and donated to the cause. He also paid tribute to Welles Crowther by sporting the BC red bandana shirt, meeting Crowther’s parents, and posting several times on social media about the incredible story inspired by yet another BC hero.

In just a few weeks back at school, we’ve seen some pretty impressive names make it out to Chestnut Hill… so be on the lookout for more celebs sure to come!
