Easy Study Break Activities

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

It’s that time of year again and finals can really take a toll on our bodies. Stress and sleep deprivation slowly cause us to lose hope in the relaxing winter break that lies ahead. The truth of the matter is, you can’t study all day and night. You have to give your body a break, but find a way to fit it into a busy schedule. Here are some easy study break activities that you can feel good about doing:

1) Get your nails done.

Yes, you are allowed to do this without feeling guilty. Focus your mornings on studying for one particular subject and then let yourself relax for an hour while getting pampered. You will thank me when your hands are perfectly clean and manicured, preventing you from unwanted biting of the nails and painful hangnails during the actual final exam.

2) Go for a run or go to the Plex.

During finals week, it is really easy to get sick and hibernate in the library or even your own bed. The best thing that you can do for your body is to stay active, whether that means going for a walk, run, or to a group fitness class. Your mind and body will be able to focus more after some rejuvenating exercise and after having a healthy sweat.

3) Go get fro-yo.

Frozen yogurt can be underestimated during finals time. Most people starve themselves or run their bodies down trying to over-study for finals. It is important to remember to eat and why not make eating fun by taking a trip to Pinkberry or Yogurt Land. You can indulge yourself without feeling guilty, especially by adding a balance of fruit and sweets to your frozen creations.

4) Watch an episode of a happy or comedic show.

This may seem like a form of procrastination to outside sources. But, the truth is that when you are memorizing information in bulk, it is hard to know if you are actually retaining the information or just storing it in your short-term memory. To test yourself, study for a few hours and then take a break to watch an episode of New Girl or Modern Family to relax your mind and give yourself a few laughs. After the show, see if you still remember what you were studying before. If not, keep repeating this process until you get the desired result!

If you follow my easy study break activities during finals, your body will thank you and your test results will improve immensely!
