Dear Best Guy Friend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Dear Best Guy Friend,

Thank you. I know no matter what I say, I will never be able to say thank you enough. You have stood by me through some of my worst moments, seen me cry because that jerk just broke my heart, seen me laugh until I cried, seen (and shared) my happiness when landing an important internship, but most importantly, always been there to listen to me. You listen to my rants about the girl who is going after my ex, how I think nothing looks good on me when we go to the mall, and how much my parents are annoying me. You deal with a lot more than I give you credit for.

You always know what to say. In fact, you usually know what I’m going to say before it gets out of my mouth. You know that I get stressed over the tiniest detail, that I’m in love with dogs, that I take my coffee with 2% milk and one sugar. You’re the person I turn to when I’ve had a terrible day because I know that talking to you will make it all go away. You’re the first one I text when I get good news because I know you’ll be just as happy as I am. We don’t have to pretend around each other, just being ourselves is the greatest thing. As much as we goof off and have ridiculous conversations (about college gossip, our insane families, or crazy high school teachers), we also are capable of having serious ones. You know my biggest fears, you know my religious beliefs, you know things I haven’t told anyone else.

We’ve gotten the “why aren’t you two dating?” question more times than I can count. When we grab food and the server asks if the check is together we both laugh and then say “No, separate, thanks.” My friends are convinced that if I’m thirty and still single, and you’re thirty and still single, we’ll get married. And while they can think that all they want, we know it’s so untrue. We’re going to be babysitting each other’s kids and my kids will call you “Uncle Hunter.” You’ll probably even be their godfather.

Just know how much you mean to me. Know that I wouldn’t trade our friendship for the world. Know that I would drop everything to help you. The friendship we have is solid and I know it will stay that way for a long time. Just a few months into our friendship, I was told “You and he are going to be friends for life. Cherish it.” People saw the bond we have and knew it was something special, even before we knew it ourselves.

Keep being you, please don’t change. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me, I can’t wait for more memories to be made!

Love,

Your Best Girl Friend
