Daylight Savings Time: Selfish Ways to Spend that Extra Hour

Yes, it’s that glorious time of year where once again when we get to turn our clocks back for Daylight Savings.  At 2 am on Sunday, November 6, let your clock “fall back” to 1 am.

I could give you a boring description of why we “spring forward” and “fall back,” or how Daylight Savings came to be… but who actually cares?  All that matters is that we get one beautiful and necessary extra hour this weekend!  And thanks to midterms (which, by the way, seem to go on for the entire term…), we could desperately use this bonus hour to catch up on homework or work on research papers.  But personally, I like to take advantage of this annual gift-of-time by being absolutely and completely selfish- no homework and no studying!

Take a 60-minute breather from school and enjoy yourself!  Here are some things you can do to maximize your relaxation now that you’ve got time on your hands:

1.   Sleep, obviously.  Those bags under your eyes need some R&R!

2.  Catch up on your favorite TV shows (2 episodes of Modern Family, 1 episode of Dexter, 1 episode of Gossip Girl, or 1 episode of Glee– I know, it’s a tough decision)

3.  Put up all those pictures you’ve been hoarding on your camera onto Facebook- your friends are getting tired of asking…

4.  Make a delicious meal if you have a kitchen (can you say “batch of cookies”?)

5.  Refresh your iPod playlists (I’ve definitely exhausted my pregame and homework playlists- time to look for good new music!)

6.  Finally call your best friend from home back

7.  Paint those horribly chipped nails

8.  Go get a haircut- summer cuts have outgrown and split ends have arrived…

9.  Go to Starbucks for a Pumpkin Spice Latte…yes, they are back!

10.  Catch up on your current events (and by this, I clearly mean visit Her Campus BC and Broston College)

11.  Knock an item off of your BC Bucket List (in one hour, you could easily go to Eagle’s Deli or White Mountain)

12.  Go to that class at the Plex that you always claim you’re too busy for (Chiseled, Cross Fit, Spinoga, anyone?  All taught by HC BC writers!)

13.  Make Thanksgiving decorations for your room (channel your inner Kindergartner and make a paper turkey, perhaps?)

14.  Skype your mama… she misses you!

15.  Be a SuperFan!  Our Men’s Hockey team is playing Northeastern on Nov. 11 and our Men’s Basketball team is taking on New Hampshire on Nov. 14.

16.  Do some online shopping

17.  Take a walk around campus- the leaves are gorgeous!

18.  Grab coffee with that on-campus/off-campus friend that you never see anymore

19.  Like Her Campus BC on Facebook and follow us on Twitter, if you haven’t already (shameless plug, but you can do it in under an hour)

I apologize for coming up with so many fun things to do when you can reasonably only finish one in 60 minutes.  Happy Daylight Savings!
