With a new semester before us at BC, anything is possible, right?  New classes, new friends, new opportunities, and well, a new chance to live and eat healthy!  Of course, late night will be consumed on most weekends and meals may be skipped, but that doesn’t mean you can’t eat healthy the rest of the time.  Whether you’re fortunate enough to have your own kitchen or not, here are some dorm kitchen staples to keep you healthy and satisfied throughout the school year!

For the fridge:
– Yogurt
– Hummus and veggies
– Fresh fruit
– Milk
– Eggs (these are super easy to microwave if you don’t have a stove!)
– Lettuce
– Cottage cheese
– Shredded cheese
– Deli meat
– String Cheese
– Chicken breasts and other lean meats for those of you with stoves and ovens!

For the pantry:
– Nuts (almonds, cashews, etc.)
– Granola
– Peanut butter
– Whole grain cereal
– Oatmeal (real or the microwaveable packets, whatever works!)
– Whole wheat crackers
– Soup
– Granola bars
– Whole wheat bread
– Potatoes/sweet potatoes (easy to microwave!)
– Whole wheat flour tortillas
– Graham crackers (I swear these babies get rid of dessert cravings without giving you any guilt)
– Pasta
– Pasta sauce

For the freezer (if you are lucky enough to have one!):
– Frozen veggies (they are equally nutritious as fresh veggies!)
– Frozen dinners (for the nights when you are running low on time)
– Frozen whole wheat waffles
– Ice cream (sometimes a girl just needs a pint!)

These kitchen essentials will give you a healthy start to the fall semester and they really do create endless meal possibilities.  For breakfast, make yourself a yogurt parfait, a frozen waffle with peanut butter, or even make some scrambled eggs with toast.  Lunch can include a homemade sandwich, a salad with all your favorite toppings, or some delicious soup.  For dinner, anything goes!  Grab a frozen entree, make a quesadilla, cook up some chicken and veggies, pasta, or even grab some cereal!

All of these are protein and fiber-filled options that will keep you full until your next meal.  What are your favorite meals to make on-campus?  Did we miss any dorm kitchen essentials?  Let us know!  We’d love to hear your feedback.  Have a great start to the school year!

Kelsey Damassa is in her senior year at Boston College, majoring in Communications and English. She is a native of Connecticut and frequents New York City like it is her job. On campus, she is the Campus Correspondent for the Boston College branch of Her Campus. She also teaches group fitness classes at the campus gym (both Spinning and Pump It Up!) and is an avid runner. She has run five half-marathons as well as the Boston Marathon. In her free time, Kelsey loves to bake (cupcakes anyone?), watch Disney movies, exercise, read any kind of novel with a Starbucks latte in hand, and watch endless episodes of "Friends" or "30 Rock."
Katie Moran is a junior at Boston College, majoring in Communication. Originally from Seattle, she loves the East Coast but misses her rainy days and Starbucks coffees. On campus, Katie is involved with Sub Turri Yearbook, the Appalachia Volunteer Program, UGBC Women's Issues Team, Cura, and the Women's Resource Center Big Sister Program. She loves reading, watching "Friends," and exploring new places. She has a passion for creating and hopes to begin a career in marketing and advertising.
