Candy Canes We Crave At Christmas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

One of the most common Christmas greetings I receive each year is a brightly striped candy cane. I always accept them with Christmas glee because I am personally a huge fan of candy canes. Over the years, however, I have received a variety of flavors of candy canes, and sometimes I do not quite know what it will taste like when I unwrap the sugary sweet.

After asking many peers what their favorite candy cane flavor is, I got a myriad of responses. Some people, who obviously do not walk the holiday aisles of Target or CVS often, were unaware that candy canes came in a flavor other than the classic peppermint. Although I got a few sour (literally) responses, like Sour Patch Kids and Warheads, there were five that stood out as the favorites of peers during the holiday season.

1.     Lifesavers

Ever feel like your Lifesaver ring disappears too fast and you wish there was more? Problem solved! Lifesaver has candy canes in their beloved original flavors of lemon, watermelon, cherry, pineapple, orange and raspberry.

2.     Classic Peppermint

There is something about Christmas and peppermint candy canes that cannot be separated. Many people responded that red and white are the only stripes they savor during the holiday season.

3.     Hershey’s Chocolate

Sometimes I think that Christmas, and not Valentine’s Day, is the holiday for chocolate. There are chocolate Christmas trees, chocolate Santas, chocolate bells, and chocolate flavored candy canes. Hershey combines two flavors that represent winter: mint and peppermint. Swirl it into one candy cane and you are in for a treat.

4.     Starburst

It is only fitting that one of the most popular fruity candies makes seasonal treats. At Easter you find jelly beans, at Halloween you find candy corn, and of course at Christmas you find candy canes. If you like Starbursts, you are sure to like their candy apple and strawberry candy canes!

5.     Bubble Gum Candy Canes

This one was even unheard of to me, but I really want to try it out. Although it appears like a pink and white striped candy cane, one bite will prove you wrong. This treat is a stick full of gum!

And if you are in the mood for somethings a little more outrageous, you can try out some of these unique flavors:

Bacon

We know many bacon lovers in our lives (Myself being one of them). I am a bit skeptical, however, that these will actually taste like the crispy strips I eat with eggs, grilled cheese and a burger.

Sriracha Sauce

Winter can get cold and sometimes we are looking for something to warm up our taste buds. If you are a fan of spice, then try out these Sriracha Sauce Flavored Candy Canes!

Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin Pie no longer needs to be reserved for Thanksgiving. Keep one of the most popular flavors of the fall going for the rest of the year with these Pumpkin Pie Flavored Candy Canes!

Birthday Cake

With a December birthday and an obsession with cake batter ice cream, I am immediately drawn to this flavor! I am imagining icing and sprinkles combined into a hard candy goodness! Hoping for a few of these cakey creations in my stocking this year!
