The Brazilian Club of Boston College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

There are a lot of clubs here at BC, but what makes the Brazilian Club of Boston College (BCBC) so special?

“It really translates Brazil’s hospitality and the fun-loving, relaxing spirit that Brazilians inherently have and you can really see that in our events. It’s really welcoming,” said Luiza Justus, Vice President and Media Chair of BCBC.

BCBC is a culture club here at Boston College whose main aim is to share its warm, lively culture with the entire BC community. There is so much more to learn about Brazil than a textbook or the Internet could ever teach you. BCBC believes the best way to learn about Brazil is through experience. That is why the club’s main focus is to host great cultural events, inviting anyone and everyone who is interested in Brazilian culture. Past events have ranged from samba classes to Churrascos (Brazilian Barbecues).

Carnaval was my favorite BCBC event we hosted last year because it had a little bit of everything: live music, food, activities, and it was so lively and fun. There was a little bit of something for everyone and so many people went. It was really fun to see people who don’t have anything to do with Brazil just enjoying and experiencing a little bit of the culture,” said Luiza.

Carnaval is a yearly festival/holiday in Brazil that takes place the five days leading up to Ash Wednesday. The festival includes a bunch of samba, dancing, and celebration. Last year, BCBC brought a little taste of Carnaval to BC and they plan on doing exactly the same this year! Check out the video Luiza made that showcases last year’s festivities:

What event should everyone most look forward to next semester?

“The World Cup! Brazil is hosting the actual World Cup this summer and I think it would be really fun to have our club host a miniature version of the World Cup as a soccer tournament between the other culture clubs. It’s something that has never been done before and soccer is such a big thing here that I think people are really going to have fun,” said Luiza.

Make sure to keep an eye out for more information regarding BCBC’s World Cup Event!
