Does anyone else feel like reading becomes the enemy during the school semester? All of the books assigned for classes become…. well, assignments.

Over the summer I read a ton of hilarious and light reads that I want to share with anyone who may have the time. If you don’t have any extra time now, then maybe you can pick one up for the plane/train ride home for Thanksgiving break! The theme here is easy reads for a girl with some time to kill (think waiting in lines, sitting on the T, etc.).

1.     Bossypants: Everyone has heard of Tina Fey’s Bossypants by now, and for a good reason. If you want to be giggling on your commute home, pick this book. It’s quick and even if you don’t notice it because her delivery is so funny, you’ll get some useful life advice out of Tina Fey while you’re at it.

2.     Is Everyone Hanging out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)Mindy Kaling describes her rise to success in the most hilarious way- reading this book feels like hanging out with your best friend. Another badass woman who is totally successful… and hilarious of course.

3.     Cuckoo’s Calling: If you want to expand your JK Rowling repertoire, you can try Cuckoo’s Calling, a murder mystery book that you can even read in an English accent if you’re feeling up to it. The story is great (and the writing is even better).

4.     Gone Girl: This Gillian Flynn novel was totally the book of the summer, and if you have not read it yet, you should. You will be guessing about how it will end the whole time (and still probably manage to be wrong). A mystery book you won’t be able to put down.

5.     Water For Elephants: If you’ve already seen the movie with Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattenson, I’m sorry but the book by Sara Gruen is way better. For those who haven’t read it or seen the movie, read it first! It’s romantic, touching, funny, captivating, and above all else totally romantic.

6.     Lean In: Sheryl Sandberg speaks about the role of women in the workplace in a way that is completely relevant – especially to college-aged girls who are just starting out in their careers. It’ll take around two hours from start to finish, it’s definitely an easy read, and the advice given is invaluable.

7.     The Art of Racing in the Rain: This charming book by Garth Stein is for dog lovers (so hopefully everyone) because some of the chapters are written from the perspective of Enzo, a mutt. You will never look at your dog the same way again.

8.     Now You See Her: If you like James Bond movies, this is a book for you. James Patterson combines adventure and romance: but written with an audience of girls in mind. A quick, fun, (definitely easy) read.

9.     Perks of Being a Wallflower: Stephen Chbosky’s novel is another one you can read and then go watch the movie for. Charlie, a fantastic and memorable character, will win you over immediately. It’s an atypical love story that may have you tearing up by the end.

10.  50 Shades of Grey: We’ve all heard of E L James’s book. Need I say more? The go-to “punny” Halloween consume of the year is also a fun read… If you’re into that kind of thing.
