Finals really cramp the style of my holiday spirit. Why is it universally a thing that exams are always right before Christmas? Don’t universities appreciate our want, no, our NEED, to spend the entire month of December basking in the glory that is the holiday season?! Well, I’m a senior, and this year, although I fully intend on doing well on finals, I will not let the stress distract me from experiencing all Boston has to offer in the holiday spirit department, and neither should you! Here are just a few ideas to get you started!

Santa Speedo Run

This has got to be the most amazing thing and I can’t believe I’m just hearing about it now. On December 14th at 1 p.m., 700 men and women will be running through Back Bay in nothing but speedos and Santa hats! Watch or join in (if your 21+) and experience Christmas joy at it’s finest!

Holiday Tea at Upstairs on the Square

I’m kind of obsessed with afternoon tea (thank you study abroad) and Upstairs in the Square in Harvard Square is absolutely the most amazing place. In December they have special Holiday Afternoon Teas from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays with delicious tea sandwiches, special Christmas cookies and of course, special hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows.

SOWA Holiday Market

If your looking for unique gifts to get your family this Christmas, visit the SoWa Holiday Market Saturday December 14th and Sunday December 15th! This year you can find the best independent designers in New England that will ensure whatever you get will be one of a kind! Visit their website for more information.

Ice Skating on Frog Pond

This is an absolute must for the holiday season in Boston. Grab your friends, and some gloves to protect yourself from the Boston winter, and head to the Boston Commons on a Saturday to break the exam stress!

Theater

Get your dose of holiday culture! A personal favorite of mine is The Nutcracker, going on at the Boston Opera House from now until December 29th. If you prefer musicals to ballet, Citi Wang Theater is showing A Christmas Story the Musical until December 8th !

If you choose to do one, or all of these fabulously fun holiday events this season, make sure to enjoy it, forget about finals (if you can!), take pictures, and send them to HCBC so we can share them!
