Best Drinks for the Bitter Cold

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

It’s that time of year again when the weather is incredibly unpredictable. One day it may be 65 and sunny while the next day it could be 34 and super windy. On these bitter cold days when your hair is whipping in front of your face and your hands are so cold you can’t move your fingers, a steaming hot beverage hits the spot. Here are some of the top winter drinks to warm you up after that long walk back to your dorm:

1. Hot Chocolate

This is by far one of the most beloved of all the hot beverages because it goes hand in hand with winter weather. You can do so many things to change it up if you’re in the mood for hot cocoa day after day. I like to pile mine with with tons of whipped cream and a bunch of mini marshmallows.

2. Coffee

A favorite amongst many hardworking people, coffee is a surefire way to stay warm as well as energized on your bitter cold walk to and from classes. There are also many different flavors of coffee nowadays for those people who are not a fan of plain coffee, so it’s a treat for everyone.

3. Tea

My personal go-to for a freezing night is to pour a steaming cup of tea. There are so many different options and everything tastes amazing that sometimes it’s hard to choose (but my personal favorite is Vanilla Chai). And, it’s incredibly easy to make. All you have to do is pop a tea bag in a cup of hot water and wait a couple minutes. It’s so quick that you can make it while you take off the many layers of clothes you’re inevitable wearing because of the cold.

4. Apple Cider

Some may say that this is more of an autumnal drink, but I think it’s great all winter long as well. Coming in from the brutal wind and taking a sip of that steaming hot apple cider is one of the best feelings. As soon as I taste it, I feel warmer. Plus the delicious apple aroma makes everything feel cozier.

If you’re stuck in the cold and can’t feel your face or your hands, try some of these delicious hot drinks. They’ll be sure to warm your body and your spirits.
