Beach Bag Necessities

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

With lazy beach days in the near future, every girl needs to have her beach bag at the ready. After you’ve picked the perfect tote, use this list of both practical and fun necessities as a guide to make your day that much more relaxing!

Sunscreen

One of the most important things to have in your bag, sunscreen helps protect your skin from harsh UV rays. Find one that works best for your skin type and make sure to reapply throughout the day, especially if you plan on spending time in the water. This one is a favorite; it goes on smooth, smells like coconut, and prevents you from getting sunburnt.

Sunglasses

Sunglasses not only give your look a stylish boost, but they also help protect your eyes. These are a classic and will pair well with any outfit. From the beach to dinner, they’ll keep you looking put together and chic. Don’t forget a pair of croakies as well; they will ensure that you won’t lose your sunglasses while you’re out on the water or playing volleyball.

Ball Cap

A perfect way to protect your skin as well as accessorize, a ball cap is a necessary addition to your beach bag. They’re perfect for hiding messy beach hair when you need to run a quick errand before going home and will help keep you cool.

Cover-up

While there are a variety of cute cover-ups available, sometimes a simple, oversized button down looks best! They are breezy, while still providing structure, and when paired with jean shorts, can transition easily to a casual dinner outfit.

Snacks and Drinks

If you’re spending hours on the beach, it’s important to stay hydrated and to have plenty of snacks on hand. Ice cream and popsicles may seem like the perfect snack, but the sugar can leave you feeling tired and way too full. Try to swap them out for healthier options, like fresh fruit or a mini pack of almonds. These snacks will give you more energy to swim and play games with your friends and family! Bring a reusable water bottle along with you to stay refreshed; try squeezing in some lemon or lime juice for added flavor.

Makeup Bag

A small cosmetic bag is always great to have on hand for little touch ups or emergencies. Throw in a few hair ties, Chapstick (with SPF!), band-aids, mascara, and blush, and you’ll be set!

Entertainment

Last but certainly not least, every girl needs something to keep her entertained on the beach. This fun speaker can either tune into the radio or be connected to your phone for a personalized playlist. Books are another way to keep yourself occupied and relaxed; pick up a bestseller before you hit the beach and enjoy!

Hi I'm Olivia! I'm a junior at BC who loves writing, photography, John Mayer, and anything beauty related.
I am a Political Science major and Women's and Gender Studies minor at Boston College. I am an RA on campus and am involved in the Student Admissions Program. Since I am from Florida, I can legitimately say that I love long walks on the beach. I also love getting lost in a world fabricated by a novel, there is honestly nothing better.
