Be Adventurous! This Fall’s Plex Sponsored Events

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Over the last few weeks, BC students have surely begun to notice the slight chill in the air and the extra foliage donning the ground as summer begins to fade away into beautiful Fall days.  With only a few months left of favorable weather before winter descends upon New England, it’s important to get outside – and I’m not just talking about reading People magazine on the Quad.   For those of you who are feeling extra adventurous, the Plex is offering six trips this fall that allow students to get out of the BC bubble for the day and experience nature.

The next trip takes place on Saturday, October 13th, in Deerfield River, Mass, about two and half hours away from campus.  Participating students will be white water rafting down the Deerfield River.   Never been rafting before?  No problem!   Experience is NOT necessary, although you must know how to swim. The cost is $35 and transportation, lunch, and equipment are provided.   Spots are extremely limited, so grab your roomie and get down to the Plex to sign up ASAP.

If you can’t make the trip, or you don’t want to pay $35, but you still fancy a day at sea, fear not, there is a sea-kayaking trip to Westport, MA on October 21st . One of the best parts is that it only costs $10! Beginners are welcome!

For those who prefer to stay on land, or who are looking to save money, the Plex is also offering three hiking trips on October 20th, November 3rd, and November 11th.   Each trip is only $5.  The first trip, the Fall Colors Day Hike, is at the lovely Mt. Moosilauke in New Hampshire, and whether you are veteran hiker or a newbie, the hike is sure to be a great day outdoors.   For those of you who might like more of a challenge, check out the five-mile hike at Mt. Monadnock Hike, also located in New Hampshire.   The mountain is “strongly recommended” by www.mountainsummits.com.  Transportation is provided.   The final hiking trip takes place in Massachusettes at the Blue Hills Day Hike. This is the tallest mountain in Massachusetts, and students will get to hike down the Appalachian Trail!

Whether or not you’re an outdoorsy person, I think we can all agree that it is important to take advantage of the beautiful Fall that New England provides.   These trips offer a chance to bond with your friends, or even make new ones, while enjoying the final weeks of great weather.   Go to the Plex’s website, www.bc.edu/rec, click on “Program Areas” and select “Outdoor Adventure” on the left hand side of the screen to take a look at the trips. Then hurry down to the Plex to register for the trip of your choice!
