While parents traveled from all parts of the country and the Boston Pops Orchestra filled Conte with fantastic sound, the football team prepared to battle ACC rival Wake Forest for the annual Parent’s Weekend Game. Coming off from a win against UMass on September 24th, the struggling Eagles were hoping to take their momentum into this past Saturday’s game.  It was one of the loudest that BC students have been at in Alumni Stadium this season.  But no, it wasn’t because we defeated the Demon Deacons in four exciting quarters, but because of a surprise appearance of a ground squirrel.
SuperFans who stayed until the second quarter wildly cheered as a squirrel made its way onto the football field.  The gray rodent started at about midfield and ran into the endzone nearest to the student section.  Immediately, the crowd erupted in response to the now famous “squirrel touchdown.”  Facebook and Twitter were buzzing with posts about the newest addition to the gridiron squad.  BC mascot, Baldwin Eagle, even tweeted, “We need to recruit that squirrel. #rodentrunningback.”
The squirrel touchdown was not the only exciting moment from the loss to Wake Forest. Â SuperFans were ecstatic upon hearing the announcement that a new all-time school rushing record being established. Â Montel Harris, the senior running back, who had 22 carries for 108 yards, broke the previous record of 3,725 career yards held by Derrick Knight, a 2003 graduate. Â After an impressive 26-yard rush in the fourth quarter, Harris clocked 3,735 yards. Â With seven games remaining in the season, we expect the all-time rusher to keep adding to that yardage.
As the Eagles sit on their fourth loss of the season, many students, fans, and sports analysts have begun discussing the idea of, to say it lightly, parting with head coach, Frank Spaziani.  Spaz took over the head coaching position for the start of the 2009 season.  The past two seasons, Coach Spaz has taken the Eagles to appearances in the Emerald City Bowl and the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl with an 8-5 and 7-6 record, respectively.  But as the team faces a 1-4 record with a tough scheduling remaining, many Superfans believe that Spaz’s time has expired.
Despite all the talk and the rumors, Her Campus BC will be cheering on the Eagles next Saturday as they travel to South Carolina to take on the Clemson Tigers.Â
