All About “Pops on the Heights”!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Parents’ Weekend is always exciting, and this year was no exception. The weekend kicked off with the 23rd annual Pops on the Heights scholarship gala on Friday, featuring Lisa Fischer, Darlene Love, and Judith Hill, as well as sophomore Liz McGovern, the Boston Pops, conducted by Keith Lockhart, the Boston College Chorale and the Boston College Marching Band.

The BCMB opened the show by performing their Les Miserables halftime show. Liz McGovern then blew the crowd away with her performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” while Lockhart conducted the Pops to accompany her. The Chorale sang “Carmina Burana” with the Pops, before the Pops took over in a spectacular rendition of “Stairway to Heaven.” Chorale finished the first half of the concert with a dance mash-up that included “Celebration” and “Y.M.C.A.”

Fischer, Love, and Hill opened the second half of the show with passionate performances of popular songs. The women have performed with the likes of Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones, and Michael Jackson. The three closed the show by performing “Lean On Me” together while the crowd sang and Lockhart danced and conducted the Pops. The BCMB then performed “Stars and Stripes Forever” with the Pops, featuring an incredible piccolo solo from senior Jaimie Chang. The show closed with the Pops, the Chorale, and the BCMB performing “For Boston.”
