5 Things About Home You Don’t Realize You Miss

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

With Thanksgiving coming up, I can’t wait to go home to be with my family, friends, and most importantly, my bed. So, in honor of this anticipated reunion, I thought I would point out a few of the things we don’t realize we’re missing when we go home. And we also realize how spoiled we were before the days of college life.

1. Taking a shower that has hot water for more than 45 seconds

Sharing a shower with three other girls definitely makes for hot water rations. Showering with normal water pressure is also a plus of home. You feel like you’re in a five-star hotel shower when you go from your college house back to a real house.

2. Free-For-All Fridge and Pantry

At school, you have to mark your food like it’s your prized possession. But at home, you’re entitled to any of the food in the fridge and/or pantry. It’s like a personal buffet, but with more options than just eggs and peanut butter.

3. Speaking of free, FREE laundry

This feature of home is truly a godsend. You don’t have to check Laundry View, or put in 12 quarters to just get clean underwear. Laundry done at school will never stand up to laundry done at home. Fact.

4. You can drive

You get to feel like a 16-year-old who just got her license. Car privileges means you can make a trip to CVS in less than 30 minutes. It also means that you get to cool it with the Uber app.

5. Classy wine

On a college budget, we really can’t afford anything other than cheap, stomped grapes packaged into a bottle. But at home, you get access to a whole new world of wine. And you get to drink it out of real wine glasses, not the typical Mason jar. **think Olivia Pope**

As much as I love college life, going home is a game-changer. Try to take advantage of being home as much as possible, and make sure to leave room in your suitcase for bringing back food, wine, clothes, and the essentials (toilet paper.)

Born and raised in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Kelly is a Senior at Boston College studying Communications and Marketing. She loves the fashion and beauty industries. She's had lots of experience with women and their tastes, given her all-girls high school background. At BC, she's involved in Strong Women Strong Girls, Student Admissions Program, and is an account management intern for Hill Holliday . When she catches a break, Kelly spends an obscene amount of time on Buzzfeed, rewatching Breaking Bad on Netflix, and attempting to workout.
I am a Political Science major and Women's and Gender Studies minor at Boston College. I am an RA on campus and am involved in the Student Admissions Program. Since I am from Florida, I can legitimately say that I love long walks on the beach. I also love getting lost in a world fabricated by a novel, there is honestly nothing better.
