The 5 Best Things About Thanksgiving Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

By the time November rolls around, it feels like we may not make it to the end of the semester. Papers, midterms, and group projects pile up, and it seems like there just isn’t enough time in the day to get it all done. For those of us lucky enough to be able to go home, Thanksgiving break is like the light at the end of a very dark and stressful tunnel. Here are some of the things to look forward to this Thanksgiving!

1. Sleep

One of the things that excites me the most about Thanksgiving break is that I get to sleep in my own bed (that is not a Twin XL) and don’t have to worry about setting alarms to get up for class. It’s a chance to refresh and catch up on those hours that you’ve missed during those all-nighters right before midterms.

2. Reuniting with friends

The best part about Thanksgiving is that you get to have the whole gang back together again. You have plenty of time to catch up on how your semesters are going, and the goodbye isn’t so hard knowing that you’ll be home in just a few weeks for winter break!

3. Seeing your family

Whether you admit it or not, it’s hard being away from our families when we’re at school. Thanksgiving is a great opportunity to reconnect with your family and remind them how much you appreciate them!

4. Food

There’s nothing like a home-cooked meal, especially at Thanksgiving. Be sure to indulge in all of your favorite foods while you’re home, and bring your Thanksgiving leftovers back to campus with you… You’ll want them after that first visit back to the dining hall.

5. Taking some “me-time”

Thanksgiving break is a chance to step back from the hectic lifestyle and overwhelming responsibilities of college. It’s an opportunity to take some time to yourself to relax, rejuvenate and do some of the activities that you enjoy.

Despite the fact that the semester is not quite over yet, Thanksgiving break is a great time to take a much-needed hiatus from the pressures of school. When you go home this year, be sure to leave the books in your backpack (at least for some of the time) and be thankful for all of the wonderful parts of being home.
