15 Ways You Can Tell You Are Becoming a Bostonian

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

So now that all of you have been at least one semester, I am sure you have picked up some Bostonian behaviors. Over winter break you may find yourself omitting “r’s” from the ends of your words in exchange for “ah” or you may start inserting “wicked” into descriptions of something that is awesome. Over four years here at BC, I have noticed that there are just some things about the locals that is unique to the Boston area that my friends at other schools throughout the country do not understand. Unsure of where you fall on the Boston continuum, check out these things to see if you have picked up on any of them since your time here at BC.

1. Your thoughts whenever you take the T at “rush hour” or the Green Line after Beanpot.

2. How the general Boston population reacts when “Shipping Up to Boston” starts to play.

3. How you feel after you go to dinner at the North End.

4. Whenever people are reminded about the Red Sox winning the World Series this year.

5. When you check the weather any morning in the winter before heading out to class.

6. When someone suggests a Dunkins run.

7. How we feel everyone drives in this state.

8. When someone says they don’t like hockey.

9. Recognizing the difference between people’s reaction to the first snow storm:

And then when it is still snowing in March:

10. Realizing that a large majority of the college-aged male population in this city are business majors and look like this

And dance like this

11. That everyone’s family has a Cape house.

12. The both men and women react like this when they hear Sam Adams isn’t on tap.

13. How ladies feel about Mark Wahlberg, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in any Boston-related movie.

14. College students’ reactions when people try to convince them any other city is a bigger college town than Boston.

15. Finally accepting you fit into the city and love it!
