The 12 Stages of Thanksgiving Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

So it’s finally here: Thanksgiving Break. We’re all either going home to our families or sharing Friendsgiving here on campus. We all know the general Thanksgiving timeline: going home, eating a ton of food, and collapsing into a food coma, but here’s a comprehensive list of the 12 Stages of Thanksgiving we go through every year:

1. The weekend before Thanksgiving break. While technically not one day, it’s the last chance we have to turn up with friends before we go home and prepping for finals (which we definitely will procrastinate thinking about).

2. Monday: we’ve all basically checked out school-wise and are completely ignoring our responsibilities because we’re SO EXCITED TO GO HOME.

3. On Tuesday, we plan to travel and squash onto the T with a bunch of other BC students, and then all pour out into South Station or we Uber with our friends to Logan Airport. On top of all of this, we shouldn’t have to deal with surge prices, am I right?

4. Wednesday morning we wake up wand experience the initial euphoria of being home again, and we all know that sleeping in our own beds definitely helped.

5. Thanksgiving Thursday: enter Macy’s parade, food coma, and a whole lot of family and friends.

6. On Friday, we’re still in a food coma and continue to eat Thanksgiving leftovers…for every meal. While watching Netflix.

7. Saturday. For me personally, this is the day my parents try to get me to realize that I go back to school on Monday and have ignored all my schoolwork over break. But there are so many friends to see from home! (My Finance textbook will still be there when I get back right? I can always do work after! #denial.)

8. On Sunday it’s time to prepare to return to BC and realize that absolutely no work got done and begin to panic. No worries, though, since you can get some work done on the trip back…right?

9. Monday morning and we’re all cursing ourselves for not cracking open a book all week. Oops. Also, the dining halls will be serving turkey dinner, which no one wants after previously mentioned food coma.

10. By Tuesday, we’re all pretty much caught up with work, but we’re not happy about it.

11. The rest of the week we’re starting to prepare for finals in classes, making all of us wonder: WHERE DID THE SEMESTER GO?

12. The weekend after break is our last chance to really party with friends before the semester’s over! This weekend is the very definition of work hard, play hard. You’ll find me in the library all day and in the Mods or friends’ rooms until 3am.

So here you are, an easy-to-follow timeline of your next two weeks! Enjoy your break everyone, and don’t forget to tell your family and friends all that you’re thankful for this year!
