Color me Chic

In an age when home-buyers are destroying stained glass mosaics and painting over gorgeous oak with beige, a revolution for color has begun. Young people all over are incorporating color into their everyday lives, which is one of the most chic things a person can do. I’m talking clothes, I’m talking hair, I’m talking literally any personal item you have—there is always a way to add more color.

Incorporating fun colors into your everyday life is much easier than some may think. Let me paint you a picture: you’re about to leave for class and are examining your outfit in the mirror. You’re wearing a cute black tank and a flowy white skirt. The outfit is adorable, but something is missing; that “wow” factor isn’t quite being met. I offer you three solutions to this dilemma. First, colorful hair accessories. One of my personal favorites is a headband, maybe with a pop of aquamarine or lavender, or better yet with a pattern (I’m partial to polka dots). The same effect can be made with a cute headscarf too. Another way can be through makeup. Colored eyeshadow, mascara, or eyeliner is a perfect way for a pop of color; it makes doing your makeup even more fun with an extra something to add to your look. My final suggestion is to layer the outfit with a colorful shirt or tank top, which can really take your fit to the next level!

Another fun way to add some color to your life is painting your nails. People are constantly using their hands for everything they do, so more often than not, that pop of color will enter your point of view. I think also something that helps is always opting for and trying to find the most colorful option of an item you have. For instance, when buying pencils, notebooks, backpacks, and other school supplies for school, try to find the most colorful version of these items, preferably a color that speaks to you! This also works for when replacing items. Perhaps your computer case breaks, and you need to buy a new one. Don’t just go for the first boring, black case you see on Amazon. Do a little searching, and you’re bound to find a computer case that’s affordable and adorable!

These tricks I’ve mentioned on how to include color are just the tip of the iceberg; there are so many more fun ways to add color! I find that when walking around campus, my eyes are always drawn to people’s outfits, and they always land on the most colorful person on the sidewalk. I find myself having a feeling of sort of admiration and envy. People who exude color are so cool and chic to me, and I strive to do the same. I also want people to see me walking to class, look at my outfit, items, maybe even just how I carry myself, and think I’m the most colorful girl around.

The people who love color are the people who are full of life—they seem to radiate color in everything they do. Life is too fun and exciting to live in a state of grey, beige, white, and black, making a life without color a bleak one indeed. Color makes me feel alive, and I think it does for almost everyone. Colorful people are Chic, but something I find even “chic-er” is when someone has a signature color or color combo. I love thinking of someone I admire or love in the form of color. Like when I think of my friend Dania, I think of the color pink. Everything she has is pink, and her personality is pink too. She’s sweet and feminine, and I love having a color to associate with her. It’s like her own brand. I’d like to think that my signature color is a combination of pink and green. I often wear pink and green together, my room is pink and green themed, and a good chunk of the things I own are pink and green.

After reading this article, I hope you have some fun new ways to make your life more colorful! Never be afraid to add color, and hopefully someday soon, you will be that colorful person walking around campus who other people admire. I highly encourage everyone to consider upping their color intake and to start considering what your own signature color may be!
