20 Movies I Am Excited to Watch in 2020

2019 was a great year for movies. From The Lion King to Avengers Endgame, last year was PACKED with action-adventures, romances, remakes, horror films and more. But to be very honest, I always look ahead to see what’s coming next to the big screen. 2020 has so many movies to look forward to, and here are my top 20 movies that I am waiting to come out in theatres this coming year.

1917

1917 is already out in theaters for your enjoyment, and I absolutely loved it when I watched it! The film appears to be shot in one take and is already winning during the current award season.

Dolitte

Also already in theaters, Dolittle is the remake of the classic film about a man who can talk to animals. With Robert Downey Jr as the main actor, this movie is sure to be a hit!

The Rhythm Section

Starring Blake Lively, Sterling K Brown and Jude Law, The Rhythm Section is a film about a woman on a quest to discover who killed her family after she finds out their plane crash wasn’t an accident.

Birds of Prey

Set in the aftermath of Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn is back in action with a new gang of rebel heroes to save a young girl from being killed.

Fantasy Island

Do you ever imagine your fantasy coming true? That’s what happens on Fantasy Island for this group of visitors, but everything is not what it seems.

The Photograph

This romance drama about a woman learning more about her mother after her passing turns into a relationship with a journalist investigating her mother and her life.

Emma

I’m always a huge fan of Jane Austen books turned into movie adaptations, and this one is sure to be a hit! The trailer already proves it’s going to be hilarious and an excellent film to watch with your girlfriends!

The Invisible Man

The trailer for this movie gave me chills, no joke. Starring Elizabeth Moss, The Invisible Man is about a woman and her dead abusive husband who she believes is still alive and haunting her even through death. This psychological thriller will keep me on the edge of my seat!

Mulan

Unless you have been living under a rock, a remake of the classic Disney movie Mulan. My internal 5-year-old is so excited about this retake of Mulan’s story after more than 20 years!

No Time To Die

Set to be Daniel Craig’s last movie as 007, No Time To Die is part of the James Bond franchise, and I am a huge fan of these action-packed adventures around the world. Although I am sad to see my first James Bond leave the role, I am anxious to see who will take his place.

The Personal History of David Copperfield

Dev Patel plays David Copperfield in this movie about the character from the novel of Charles Dickens. Dev Patel previously played in some great movies like Lion, so I am excited to see him in this movie!

Black Widow

Ladies and Gentlemen. It is happening. Black Widow is getting her own movie and I am PSYCHED! This movie will give us an inside look into Natasha Romanoff’s life before becoming an Avenger and what action she gets into between Avengers Civil War and Infinity War.

Wonder Woman 1984

If this trailer doesn’t get you hype, I really don’t know what will. Gal Gadot is returning as Wonder Woman in this movie set in 1984 and I am here for it!

Soul

Soul is about a jazz musician in New York City who follows his passions to perform, but after an accident, he must develop his soul before he is stuck in a world called the “You Seminar”. Produced by Pixar, I can already see this movie being something for people of all ages to enjoy and relate to.

Top Gun: Maverick

Tom Cruise once again has a need. A need for speed. in this sequel to the action-packed classic, Top Gun. Top Gun: Maverick is about Pete Mitchell returns as a test pilot.

In The Heights

Y’all. I am already listening to the OG soundtrack for this musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda. This trailer was a whirlwind of emotions with tears and smiles and just overall pride for being a Latina.

Jungle Cruise

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt join forces in this adventure-filled movie along the Amazon River! Based on the river ride at Disneyland, The Jungle Cruise will keep you on your toes with all the things lurking in the waters.

The King’s Man

I am a huge history nerd, and movies set in different time periods are my cup of tea. The King’s Man is set as the prequel to the already popular Kingsman: Secret Service franchise.

Death on the Nile

In middle school, I LOVED mystery books by Agatha Christie, and I was a huge fan of the recent movie adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express. I am excited to see Kenneth Branaugh return to the iconic role Hercule Poirot along with an amazing cast with Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Letitia Wright, and more.

Jennifer Hudson as the queen Aretha Franklin? I couldn’t ask for a better pairing. Although we don’t have a date for the release, I already know that this movie is going to be a hit!
