The Voice 2018: Kyla Jade’s “You Don’t Own Me”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bates chapter.

Okay, everyone. Hold on for a minute. We need to talk. What about, you ask? About Kyla Jade’s rendition of the Lesley Gore classic, “You Don’t Own Me,” on “The Voice” in the Knockouts round, of course! Oh my, she absolutely knocked it out… of the park. Haven’t seen the performance? Allow your ears to be blessed.

Watching this, I was stunned. Her vocal control and range is absolutely incredible. She blew me away, and I immediately watched it several times over to be sure this was real. An approximation of my reaction can be found in this reaction video from BROTHER:

Kyla Jade has revived me from my post-finals emotionless state. Somebody alert the press; it’s a miracle.
