It’s 2023, and I’ve decided that I’m entering my hot girl era. I recently ended things with my boyfriend of 3 ½ years and with Valentine’s Day around the corner, all of this lovey-dovey stuff I’m seeing everywhere makes me want to hurl. Now don’t get me wrong, I love Valentine’s Day. I always enjoy the Galentine’s aspect of the holiday and getting to dress up in a wide array of pinks and reds, but this year is my first year in a long time going into the holiday single. So, back to my hot girl era comment. I have decided that instead of listening to the cliche love songs I’ve listened to in the past (or even worse, listening to songs that will make me cry), I am making an “anti-love” playlist. I’ve compiled a list of my top 10 songs that you can add to your anti-Valentine playlist that is *guaranteed* to not make you cry and miss your ex.
1. “I’ve Had Enough” by Melina KB
This song does an amazing job of capturing what it feels like to be SO DONE with people not understanding the word “no.” Melina says that “no man can demand our bodies, our spirit, our love” and I 100% agree. If you’re tired of being gaslit and not being treated with respect, this song is for you.
2. “I don’t really like your boyfriend” by Avenue Beat
Ever have a friend with a boyfriend you just really didn’t like and they couldn’t see it? Send them this song to help explain why. We never want our besties to be in a relationship that holds them back or makes them feel small. Your relationship should lift you up and make you feel like your best self and if it doesn’t, well then maybe “you should make that boy your ex.”
3. “I hope ur miserable until ur dead” by Nessa Barrett
This song goes out to the ex that was just trash. Enough said.
4. “She’s So Gone” by Naomi Scott (Lemonade Mouth)
Don’t even think about hating on this song just because it’s from a Disney Channel movie. Lemonade Mouth was iconic. This is a song to scream in the car with the windows down (okay maybe not right now because it’s pretty cold but you get what I mean). Ever feel like a huge weight is lifted off of you after a breakup? I sure do. This song is what it feels like to finally become the girl that is secure in her skin and “stronger than you ever thought.”
5. “Bad Day” by Justus Bennetts
Same vibes as song number three. Listen to this song to manifest that everything goes wrong for someone that did you dirty.
6. “Hot Mess” by Zoe Clark
Zoe sums up the feeling of being a hot mess. We spend too much money on things we probably don’t need, are stressed and depressed, don’t sleep a lot, spill our coffee, and have stomach problems. Then we talk about it all with our therapist. But hey, if we’re a mess we “might as well be a hot one.”
7. “Groundhog Day” by Em Beihold
This one is for those of us that are watching everyone else around us in relationships (I know this was me last year, sorry guys) and feeling like we are the only ones alone. Now, don’t take this one too hard. It is perfectly okay and normal to be single and not move at the same pace as the people around us. We all are making our way in this world the best we can!
8. “The lifeboat’s empty!” by Chelsea Cutler
This song may make you *slightly* emotional but I had to include it on the list. This song is about giving your all to someone who would never give it back to you. But, through doing this you realize that you are worth more and leave the person who was drowning you. Yes, girl!
9. “10 Things I Hate About You” by Leah Kate
We could probably all list at least 10 things we hate about our ex. Leah decided to put it in a song for the world to hear. What an icon. Listen to this song, memorize it, scream sing it, just do it.
10. “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus
I couldn’t end this list without including the song that has been taking over my TikTok fyp.If you haven’t listened to it yet, what are you doing? Go now!
