My Top 10 Sex Songs, Because Why Not?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Augustana chapter.

[insert bad 70s porno music here] Or not. I have a theory that everyone secretly wants to have a sexy playlist, but people either aren’t sure of what music to play to set the mood, or are afraid to show their partner a playlist. And if I’m honest, more times than not I don’t pull out my laptop and scroll through Spotify in the middle of foreplay, but when I do get to play some steamy music, it definitely doesn’t hurt. So here it is, my top ten sex songs. Whether you want to set the mood or just can only orgasm by way of a strong bass line, check out these songs and get sexy. And yes, this article is an excuse to show off my taste in music.

Redbone by Childish Gambino

With the release of Donald Glover’s newest album ‘Awaken, My Love’ we all discovered a side of Childish Gambino we didn’t know existed. Rather than speaking of girls who can “drop it like the NASDAQ”, this album charges into prog funk. Redbone is a track that epitomizes atmospheric psychedelia and oozes sensuality. Redbone is even featured in the beginning of the box office hit, Get Out, directed by Jordan Peele. But I promise this song has nothing to do with psycho thrillers and everything to do with sexy times.

Pussy is Mine by Miguel

Despite the possessiveness the title of the song may imply, Miguel croons over an erotic acoustic. This song may seem like it’s written by your creepy ex who can’t get over you, but Miguel will convince you that he just wants to love and worship your body. Even if the person you’re putting the moves on doesn’t have a pussy- even if you don’t have a pussy, this song will put you in the mood to bump and grind.

Glory Box by Portishead

Listening to ‘Glory Box’ (which I assume must be some sort of euphemism for vagina) makes me feel like laying on a piano in a jazz lounge whilst wearing a fur coat and immaculately applied red lipstick. The singer begs “give me a reason to love you, give me a reason to be a woman” over a stinging guitar and electric amp. This track is bursting with sexual tension and desperate longing. Full disclosure: this song is on my sex playlist twice.

Muse by OCAD

A long time favorite of mine, Muse comes from the duo OCAD (a group comprised of Olivia Cipolla & Arie Dixon). Muse is engaging, erotic, and brimming with sexual empowerment. When Olivia Cipolla belts lines like “mama always told me not to need a man” and “the one thing he should know is I can also wear the pants with my fucking heels on” you may feel like taking the lead. This track encourages women to take control of their sex lives, and offering to be someone’s muse is always a confidence booster.

Poison by Brent Faiyaz

Poison is an R&B song with a contagious bass and silky vocals, making it practically addictive. The track has a velvety track that features Faiyaz hovering in and out of the falsetto stratosphere as he yearns for a woman he loves. The beats are tight, but the general tone remains full and lush. The music is mesmorizing and passionate. The song is uncomplicated and not a surprising part of the R&B scene, but remains integral for a heated night.

God is Fair, Sexy Nasty by Mac Miller feat. Kendrick Lamar

With a track that borders nine minutes, you might expect lulls and dulldrums, but Mac Miller is a long ways away from ‘Smile Back’ and ‘Donald Trump’. The new, mature, gravel-voiced Mac Miller is enticing. Lamar’s verses are stirring and thoughtful yet steamy. The track also features a monologue of a woman explaining how she met and fell in love with her husband, which serves as a romantic focal point, but also ensures you don’t catch yourself singing along to the chorus as you get it on.

Girl by The Internet feat. KAYTRANADA

Knowing that this song is a collab between The Internet and KAYTRANADA should be all you need to hear in order to want to listen to this. But in case you need more convincing, this track is textured with layers of funk and R&B working together harmoniously. The beat soars with a seductive quality and skillful use of soul. Syd hauntingly sings bars like “girl, they don’t know your worth” and “anything you want is yours” as “I love you baby” is repeated softly in the background. The mix of tech and prog funk creates an intoxicating track.

Absolute Reprise by midnight

Absolute Reprise is soulful, lush, and blissful. The beat is tender and inviting and fits warmly behind sensitive and fluid vocals. The track is groovy and serves as a refreshing bit of electronic music when mixed effortlessly with a distinctly funky vibe. midnight creates a steamy, almost spiritual sound with an inviting and dreamy soundscape. This song is airy yet lusty and is designed for sexy times.

Mona Lisa by Monte Booker

Mona Lisa is masterfully created track full of fluidity and movement. This song drips with hedonism as Monte Booker serenades “Mona Lisa”, begging her to smile. Booker successfully mixes electronic with R&B for a poetic sound. This song is moody, stylish, and makes me think of silk sheets and those elaborate bathrooms only people on HGTV have.

Vibin’ Out by FKJ

Rippling, silky vocals sprawl out through this track creating sophisticated soul. FKJ has put together a track that’s futuristic, classy, and mesmerizing. This song is absolutely erotic as the beat purrs and the vocals hum longingly. There is something effortlessly feel-good yet fluid and ethereal about ‘Vibin Out’. Accurately titled, this track is the epitome of “good vibes”. Letting this flow out of your speakers is sure to put you and whoever you’re with in the mood.

Ok readers, now that you have at least ten silky, smooth, sexy songs, go and get it on!
