If you’re anything like me every year, you wanna try to do something new, challenging, or exciting. And if you’re anything like me, everything always seems to fall back in the same routine.

I’ve started creating a yearly bucket list of things that I would like to do in a year that are not in my typical activity rotation.

Here are six things from my personal bucket list that might be worth trying yourself!

  1. Travel, literally anywhere.

If you’re anything like me, you probably keep the same four or five locations in your regular rotation. Whether you want to travel to a new state, city, country, or 10 minutes in a direction that you’ve never been before, explore, and find something new.

  1. Visit Chicago!

I have lived in Illinois for three years and I’ve still never been to downtown Chicago. I know for many students visiting a large city in your state is difficult when you are so busy with campus life or you don’t have the transportation to do so. My biggest goal by the end of the year is to go to Chicago. I really want to see the Bean. I’ve been told it’s not that interesting but it still looks really cool to me and I just want to touch it. There’s also a lot of things to do in Chicago. I personally really want to visit the aquarium and explore museum options!

  1. Have a picnic or a tea party with your friends.

I personally have this goal for almost every year and it’s not always completed. I am somebody who really enjoys spending time with people I care about and I am also a big fan of tea. You can also do an activity during this like drawing, painting, or playing games. It’s really just about having quality time with people you love!

  1. Get a new tattoo or piercing!

If this is your thing, of course. This year I’ve been able to cross off getting a piercing as I did finally get my nose pierced. I have a lot of tattoo ideas and I know that I’m gonna cross this one off my list in April!

When getting a tattoo though, do you think about it for a bit. This is something that’s going to permanently be on your body.

  1. Indulge in physical media!

If you’re anything like me, you’ve noticed the shift to analog. I personally am somebody with a record player and a CD player that I love to use. I would definitely recommend switching to off-line forms of entertainment when you’re able to. When I’m at home, I love listening to my records and CDs to still enjoy media that I love but unplugged.

Plus, this means you can go to really cool record stores like Ragged Records in downtown Rock Island!

  1. Read more books!

I have a goal to read at least one book every month for personal enjoyment. No matter what format your book is in, try to find something that you can indulge in for you.

I personally really enjoy listening to audiobooks while I am walking in class or working.

Throughout all of the busyness of being a college student, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all of your tasks. Remember to take a breath and do something for yourself once in a while.
