One of Auburn’s panhellenic sororities, Zeta Tau Alpha, is about to host its annual philanthropy event, “Big Man on Campus!” This event is a comedic male beauty pageant intended to raise money for breast cancer education and awareness. It also receives a huge amount of participation from other panhellenic sororities. Each one chooses a male representative to compete in the pageant. There are several competitions the boys can win prior to the event. For example, “Sexy Legs” is a contest where the boys take comical pictures of their legs, which are then posted on the concourse for students to vote on for a winner.
“Zeta Favorite” is the contestant who wins the heart of Zeta’s chapter members by impressing them at the “Zeta Favorite Chapter.” In the past, boys have brought puppies, baked goods, and even a motorcycle to the chapter room! There is also a fundraising award for the boy who raises the most money. All of the winners of the contests are announced at the event. Throughout the pageant the boys are scored on talent, formal wear, on stage question, audience participation and fundraising. The overall winner is declared “Big Man on Campus.” This event has been a tradition for 21 years. The girls are passionate about this philanthropy and raise money in a variety of ways. You can find them selling t-shirts, taking advantage of social media, working on the concourse, and visiting local businesses to gain support. Last year, the members were able to raise $48,000 with the help of friends, family, local businesses and Auburn students. This year they hope to exceed that and reach their goal of $55,000. Last year there were approximately 2,000 people in attendance, and, of course, this year they aim for more! Big Man on Campus will be held on April 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Auburn Arena. Tickets are $7, and will be sold on the concourse and at the door. You are sure to have a good time and will be helping Zeta Tau Alpha fight the battle against breast cancer!
