This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Auburn chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

Emily Riley is a junior from Trussville, Alabama. She is a Human Development and Family Studies major and was Panhellenic’s Director of Spritual Life for the past academic year. She is the upcoming Panhellenic president for the 2011-2012 school year. HC Auburn chose Emily as this week’s campus celeb because the Panhellenic president is a liaison between the seventeen sororities and Panhellenic’s Council and also oversees Panhellenic’s relations with other student organizations such as SGA and the Committee of 19.

HC Auburn: What made you want to get involved in Panhellenic?

I wanted to make a difference not only in the lives of my sorority sisters, but in Panhellenic as a whole. It is such an awesome opportunity to get to encourage the wonderful girls I get to work with everyday. I think being in Panhellenic gives you an experience that can help you grow as a leader and a person.

HC Auburn: Have you held any other leadership positions before President?

I worked with the Student Government Association as Director of City Relations and also served as the Member Enrichment Chair and Activities Chair for my sorority. I am the outgoing Director of Spiritual Life for Panhellenic Council as well. I loved serving in these positions and it definitely helped me to prepare for my position as President now.

HC Auburn: What plans do you have for Panhellenic this year?

This year, I really want to maintain and continue the long standing tradition of being a positive asset to Auburn’s campus and to always seek to strive to be better leaders, and in turn enrich Panhellenic as a whole. I plan to coordinate events with other organizations on campus and also focus in on serving our community through various service opportunities. We plan on encouraging the social media aspect to help with communication and publicity.

HC Auburn: Why do you think it’s important for girls to participate in Panhellenic in addition to their individual sororities?

As I mentioned earlier, it is such a rewarding experience and it really can enhance leadership abilities. Not only does it promote leadership, but also unity among all seventeen sororities through serving each other for the betterment of Panhellenic. It is a neat opportunity to get to grow in relationships with girls in other sororities and have a wider perspective than just one sorority.

HC Auburn: What should interested girls do to get involved with Panhellenic?
We will have a fall recruitment that will take place in August and also Continuous Open Bidding (COB) which takes place all year but is not on a set schedule. If you would like more information you can contact the Greek Life Office at 334.844.4600 or email us at aupanhellenic@auburn.edu.
