My Favorite Peppermint Hot Chocolate Recipe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Auburn chapter.

Nothing screams winter and holidays more than peppermint! I love incorporating it in whatever I can when Christmas rolls around. One of my favorite things to put it in is hot chocolate! Not only is it tasty, but it’s perfect for the cold weather. Here’s a delicious recipe for peppermint hot chocolate to keep you warm this holiday season.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups of heavy cream
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ⅛ tsp of salt
  • 6 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 3 drops peppermint oil

Optional:

  • Whipped cream
  • A candy cane

Directions:

  1. Chop the chocolate into small pieces.
  2. In a saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the cream, milk, sugar, and salt.
  3. Once the mixture begins to steam, add the chopped chocolate. Stir until melted.
  4. Stir in the peppermint oil.
  5. Pour hot chocolate into mug.
  6. Top with whipped cream and add a candy cane (whole or crushed) on on top for a cute decoration!
