The number 13 generally has a negative connotation as being an unlucky number.  Maybe that’s the reason the theory of the Mayan Apocalypse was so widely supported – 2013 was sure to be a truly terrible year due to the age-old superstitions. But luckily, we made it through the end of the world and are thus able to experience all the amazing things 2013 is sure to bring!

So without further ado, here are 13 things you can look forward to in 2013!

  1. January:  The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards air this Sunday, the 13th, at 7 central! Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are teaming up once again to host the show and it’s bound to be absolutely hilarious. Be sure to tune in and see who wins! (I personally have my fingers crossed for the always incredible Jennifer Lawrence!)

  2. February:  Award Season continues into February with The Grammys on February 10th and The Academy Awards on February 24th! The nominations for the Oscars, which are being hosted by funnyman Seth Macfarlane, have yet to be announced, but The Grammy nominations sparked lots of controversy. Fun., Mumford & Sons, Jay-Z, Frank Ocean, and soon-to-be-daddy Kanye West all garnered six nominations each, but their success didn’t overshadow who was snubbed. Justin Bieber and One Direction were left off the nominations list, which is completely ridiculous in my unprofessional opinion. But thank God Ed Sheeran’s The A Team was nominated for Song of the Year!

  3. March: What’s there to look forward to in March? Two words say it all: SPRING. BREAK. Whether your partying it up, relaxing on the beach, or spending a lazy week at home, Spring Break is definitely a thing to look forward to!

  4. April: Classes are winding down again, and we can all take a sigh of relief knowing that summer is just one short month away! So many things are happening on campus as the school year comes to a close, between Rodeo and A-Day and so many other things. Be sure to finish out the semester with a bang!

  5. May: After a long wait, Baz Luhrmann’s sure to be masterpiece The Great Gatsby is FINALLY released! On May 10th, the cinematic adaptation starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the mysterious Jay Gatsby opens in theatres.  If Leo and Baz’s previous collaboration (Romeo + Juliet) is any indication, this film is going to be completely epic. Although rumor has it that Luhrmann decided to push back the original release date, Christmas Day of 2012, to avoid competition with Les Miserable, I wholeheartedly believe it’s because he didn’t want to overshadow the beloved musical with his adaptation of the American Classic.

  6. June:  Summer finally arrives, and brings with it concert season! One Direction, Justin Bieber, Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, and many other artists are taking the stage all across America this summer and you don’t want to miss out! Plus, musical festivals like Warped Tour, Coachella, and many others start kicking off the month of June. So start saving to get amazing seats and the best deals possible!

  7. July: Although there is no official word from the palace, it is expected that Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton will welcome their first child this month! And if the birth of a beautiful little royal isn’t something to look forward to, I’m not quite sure what is.

  8. August:  It’s no secret that I’m a massive One Direction fan, so this one may only apply to me. But even if you aren’t a hardcore Directioner, you should still get to theatres to see the band’s first feature film! The 3D film will showcase the boys documentary-style, following them through their sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden this past December and their daily lives. An official release date has yet to be set, but member Niall Horan told Today Show host Matt Lauer to expect the movie sometime in August.

  9. September:  Football season will be in full-swing, and hopefully new head coach Gus Malzahn will be leading the Tigers to an incredible comeback season!! We can start showing off our new gameday dresses and really getting into our Auburn spirit while supporting our newly restructured Tigers.

  10. October: Fall and Halloween are in the air, meaning plenty of scary flicks in every theatre! Several remakes are coming back to the silver screen, but we can be sure the minds behind the Paranormal Activity movies have surely thought of something even more frightening for their fifth installment.

  11. November:  The follow-up to last year’s uber-successful The Hunger Games is finally here! Catching Fire is expected in theatres November 22nd and is sure to be as fantastic as the first. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth all reprise their roles, and there are several other wonderful additions to the cast, such as the gorgeous Sam Claffin as Finnick!

  12. December: Classes are over, finals are almost through, and it’s officially the holiday season!! Getting to spend time with your family and friends definitely is something to look forward to. Oh, and did I mention presents?!

  13. And the last thing to look forward to in 2013:
Having the chance to make the most of another year!
