Two bits, four bits, six bit a dollar, all for Evans stand up and holler! This week, Her Campus got the inside scoop of what it means to be an Auburn Cheerleader. Sophomore from Birmingham, Evans Carr tells it all and shares his tiger pride experience with us!
HC Auburn: What made you want to come Auburn University?
Evans: I looked at other schools to go to, but I had grown up familiar with Auburn. I came a lot when I was younger, because my family went here. It just felt right and felt like home.
Â
HC Auburn: Did you always want to be an Auburn Cheerleader?
Evans: My mom was a cheerleader at Auburn. She was the one who pushed me into considering it during high school. When I got here I went for it and tried out. It worked out!
Â
HC Auburn: Did you cheer in high school?
Evans: I actually didn’t cheer, at all, in high school. I worked out a lot, wrestled, and played football.  I learned how to stunt the girls when I joined the cheerleading squad at Auburn. I stunted them all last spring semester. Guys usually pick up on it pretty easily.
Â
HC Auburn: What are the practices like? Is there a strict diet or workout plan?
Evans: The coaches don’t really enforce a particular diet or workout plan for us. We go to practices and we do all the stunting stuff during that time. They put it on us to work out. There is kind of a particular group of people that do that voluntarily anyways.
Â
HC Auburn: How time consuming is being an Auburn Cheerleader?
Evans: It’s pretty time consuming, because of practices and I also have to make appearances. I have to go to things like libraries, pre-schools, and nursing homes. It is very time consuming but it really is fun and worth doing.Â
Â
HC Auburn: Are you still able to be involved in other organizations on campus?
Evans: Yes, I am an active Fiji (Phi Gamma Delta fraternity), but other than that my time is devoted to cheerleading and school. I’m majoring in mechanical engineering, which is hard but I enjoy it.
Â
HC Auburn: What has been the best part about cheering at Auburn?
Evans: It’s been really great getting to know all the people on the squad. They’re all really cool and it’s been nice being able to contribute in some way to the university. The away games have also been really fun. Going to Nashville for the Vanderbilt game and Atlanta for the Clemson game were my favorite places so far.
Â
HC Auburn: What advice would you give someone who wants to be an Auburn Cheerleader?
Evans: Don’t get discouraged and work as hard as you can!
