The latest version of the iPhone is already up for grabs on preorder, and the company shared the plans for brand new technology—the Apple Watch. The release of these new products is the reason why Auburn Alum and Apple CEO Tim Cook is this week’s campus celebrity!
Tim Cook graduated from Auburn in 1982 with a degree in industrial engineering, and then turned to a job in computers with IBM and the Compaq. In 1998 he joined the world of Steve Jobs as Senior Vice President for Worldwide Operations. Cook took the Auburn Creed to heart and believes in hard work, which led him to become CEO of Apple Inc. in August 2011 following Jobs’ resignation due to his declining health.
Since Cook took control of the company, Apple has given the word new iOS software, updated generations of the iPhone, iPod Nano and Touch, iPad, iMacs, and other classic Apple products. The iPad Mini, released in 2012, signaled the constant development of current technology. At the annual Apple conference last week, the company introduced the iPhone 6 line and a totally new item, the Apple Watch.
The iPhone 6 will have a larger screen and higher quality features. Instead of the usual “S” upgrade that features Siri, the iPhone 6 series will have the iPhone 6 Plus, which will have an even larger screen than the 6 and additional unavailable features. Versions of the iPhone 6 are available for preorder now and will hit the shelves later this year. The latest gadget from the company, the Apple Watch, is a very trendy piece of technology that won’t be ready until 2015. The watch acts as a remote for Apple TV, a method of transaction with Apple Pay, and acts as an iPhone, iPad, and iPod all in one tiny piece of fashionable wear. There will be many different styles and versions of the watch to best suit your lifestyle!
