With Championship Saturday past us, bowl games are starting to take shape. In case you were in a cave this weekend, LSU beat Georgia to win the SEC championship 42-10. LSU secured its bid to the National Championship, if not before this game, then after yesterday’s victory and with an undefeated season.
As far as who they will play, well the number two spot is one that is not so clear. Before this week, Alabama, a one-loss team this season was ranked number two in the polls. Oklahoma State (11-1) is at number three. However after this weekend, we shouldn’t be surprised if we see a move. Alabama didn’t play this weekend and Oklahoma State won the Big 12 conference title over Oklahoma (9-3) 44-10. With a win like this, I advocate for the national championship to come down to LSU and OSU. However, much to my, and all other Auburn fans’ dismay, Alabama is leading OSU in the polls to be ranked second. A compilation of six computer ratings will determine the final third of a BCS score.
While an SEC West showdown and rematch will be exciting for the championship game, if it’s a repeat of LSU and Bama’s first match up, it’s going to be a snoozer. And let’s also not forgot what Nick Saban himself said, “Anyone who doesn’t win their conference has no business playing in the national championship game.” Well, if only this world worked like Nick Saban wanted it to…
If the votes continue to come in for Bama, like they are anticipated to, and it ends up being LSU and Alabama in the national championship – I am actually going to root for Alabama. Let’s bring a third national title in a row to this great state. But don’t stop there, while we’re at it, lets bring another Heisman – Trent for Heisman!
