For anyone that knows me, I am completely and utterly obsessed with the magical F. Scott Fitzgerald. Throughout all of his books and short stories, it is quite hard for me to not be absorbed within his words and apply them to my own life and experiences. Fitzgerald put his most profound thoughts and feelings into his works that struck, inspired, and comforted not only myself, but many others. So here are some of his most awe-inspiring quotes, although some may be beautifully heartbreaking, they are ones that have always resonated with me…
-
“The world only exists in your eyes. You can make it as big or as small as you want.”
-
“Breathing dreams like air.”
-
“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.”
-
“I was within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life.”
-
“She was beautiful, but not like those girls in the magazines. She was beautiful, for the way she thought. She was beautiful, for the sparkle in her eyes when she talked about something she loved. She was beautiful, for her ability to make other people smile, even if she was sad. No, she wasn’t beautiful for something as temporary as her looks. She was beautiful, deep down to her soul. She is beautiful.”
-
“You never knew exactly how much space you occupied in people’s lives.”
-
“All life is just a progression toward and then a recession from one phrase– ‘I love you.”
-
“You are the finest, loveliest, tenderest, and most beautiful person I have ever known—and even that is an understatement.”
-
“Things are sweeter when they’re lost. I know–because once I wanted something and got it. It was the only thing I ever wanted badly…and when I got it it turned to dust in my hand.”
-
“That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you’re not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong.”
Feeling speechless? Me too.
