Your Halloween Listening Guide

As someone who doesn’t ever really party (Lame! Right?), I do find myself listening to music a lot. Doing homework, between classes, completing my Spotify Discover Weekly when driving to my mom’s house, you name the situation, and I just might be listening to music. I also was a band kid growing up, so I was immersed in many genres.

Well, enough about me. Let’s talk about you! Whether you’re an Apple Music, Spotify girl, or a Soundcloud connoisseur, music is music. Personally, I am a Spotify girl, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion and preferences. Music makes any activity complete, so I have compiled a few of my favorite “spooky” songs to make your Halloween one to remember. Please enjoy responsibly when driving with friends, partying at a safe distance, or even just hanging out by yourself!

“Dance Macabre” – Ghost

Whether you enjoy rock, dancing, or both, this song is for you. Even their music video is based on a costume party that goes wrong. This is primarily a rock band that performs almost always in eyeblack or masks and costume, so it is almost always Halloween for this band.

“Disturbia” – Rihanna

Everyone loves Rihanna, there’s just no denying it. This song does feature things that are found disturbing, but it is so good. Crank this one up at a party for a throwback moment. Especially if you know all of the words, like me!

“Bring Me To Life” – Evanescence

I’m more than certain that everyone was “dying” to see this one on the list. The male and female voices overlapping do create a spooky feeling, but also is a staple throwback piece that is sure to be sung at any and every party.

“Drunk on Halloween” – Wallows

Allow me to present you a song that is absolutely perfect for rolling down your windows and just enjoying the breeze while this song plays in the background. Granted this song is about heartbreak, but it does mention Halloween and it’s pretty catchy.

“Thriller” – Michael Jackson

As far down on the list this one is, I’m hoping you’re not surprised it is even included. I imagine that you’ve heard this one a million and one times growing up, but let’s make it a million and two.

“Devil Woman” – Clif Richard

I first heard this song in the movie, I, Tonya, and immediately fell in love. This song does portray an evil woman and her characteristics, but it just adds to the spook, amirite? This unnamed woman is portrayed as powerful, and women are pretty powerful in my opinion!

“People Are Strange” – The Doors

Allow us to celebrate everyone, no matter their background. Everyone is just as weird as the next, so who cares? This song definitely portrays how people are strange and is too catchy to not make it to the list for your Halloween listening. Get out there, celebrate everyone’s costumes, and just be strange!

“bury a friend” – Billie Eilish

Creating a spooky mood, Billie Eilish almost writes this entire album with that in mind. Her low voice, the piano, and effects she used (applicable to headphone users) create an omniscient spooky feeling for the listener while being something you can party to or hear on the radio every twenty minutes.

“Creep” – TLC

Bet you thought I would mention “Radiohead?” I was thinking of it, but my aim is towards songs people might have forgotten about. Not only does this song talk about stalking and following, but it also is a staple piece of the late ’90s( A good time for everyone, excluding myself because I wasn’t born yet). Whether you’re being followed by someone or looking for yet another throwback jam, this is exactly what you could need to end the night on a positive note.

“R.I.P. 2 My Youth” – The Neighbourhood

Known for their staple piece  “Sweater Weather,” frontman Jessie Rutherford, plays out this masterpiece. Growing up is terrifying as it is, but let’s throw a cool drum beat, tambourine hit, and grunge voice and blast it in our headphones. We don’t always have to have a funeral for our childhood, but we can sure celebrate like kids for a night or two.

I’m hoping that some of these songs spice up your Halloween playlist that you need inspiration for, or they make your night drive much more enjoyable. Please  enjoy and celebrate responsibly and now you have even better tunes to ensure the party never dies.
